Hello all new to your forum. Well I bought a 03 with a 5.9 going over it all and there was green coolant in it and I topped it off with green. The Napa dood said it's fine I don't trust him. I'm new to HOAT and will be doing the plugs and wires and wondering if I should invest in a new thermostat and switch to g-05 or if it ain't broke don't fix it method. Heat works well and hasent ran any high temps. I have read a lot on the internet on the flush (running water through method ) does that do the heater core? And if that gets the coolant out of the engine how much water stays in? I've always mixed my own coolant with distilled more bang for buck. Long first post I know. Run the green or flush and switch? How bad can it be? The truck has 130000 on it no telling how long the green has been in it but it's GREEN not kinda green. All help appreciated. Thanks for having me.

The old green stuff should be changed at 3/36, HOAT is 5/100 rated. You can run the old stuff as long as you follow shorter change interval.

Your choice, like mentioned you'd need to change it more often, whereas HOAT lasts longer and is generally considered better for the dissimilar metals (iron block, alunimum heads) and was what originally came in your truck. What you need to figure out is if the system was flushed completely prior to the PO putting the wrong coolant. If you garden hose it, you'll need to pull the hoses for the heater core and flush it separately. Whichever you choose, do not not not under any circumstances mix the green and orange.
