From looking at the chart on Wikipedia it appears the newer non-Aisin Cummins with the 68rfe tranny have 385HP/800lb/ft torque and the 6spd manual tranny is only 350/660.

But, when looking at the dealer websites I see all with the 68rfe say 350/660 (I don't see any 6spd manual and am not looking for that anyway).

Can anyone confirm that ALL 68rfe tranny Rams have the 385/800. I'm guessing dealers are just lazy and don't want to change the lowest stock specs?? If so, it seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot because a casual shopper is led to believe the truck is much less powerful than it is.

I wouldn't rely upon Wikipedia for my research. A quick glance at the Ram webpage should answer your question...

2016 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Trucks - Capability & Performance

They have 370 horses and 800 lbs/ft of torque. I can only surmise that the dealerships that you are looking over aren't big truck sellers and they likely don't know the difference. Regardless, I try to know way more about the truck that I am buying than the guy that is trying to sell it to me.

The 385 HP/900 lbs/ft torque option is the 3500 with the Aisin.

Thanks.... I was pretty sure that was the case. So true about knowing more than the salesman. To be fair, there is only one truck I'm looking at and studying, and the dealers have numerous models. BUT, they should keep their pie holes shut if they don't know something rather than just trying to make stuff up. It's amazing how inaccurate many salesmen routinely are.

Very true. Do your research NOW and you won't be surprised LATER. I've been told some pretty tall tales by some salesmen over the years. Thankfully anytime I buy something that costs more than a couple dollars, I have researched the heck out of it!!!

Took me over a year to buy my Tundra in 2010. I researched my Jayco travel trailer for over 2 years before I bought it. This Ram was the least I researched, because I was looking at gas trucks (Ford and Ram) and stumbled upon a used CTD at a Ford dealer. I had done some research on the diesel and determined that I didn't NEED one, couldn't justify paying extra for one... but if I got a diesel it would be a CTD. When this one fell into my lap I spent several days reading up and decided to jump on it.

Let me tell you... I'm glad I bought it!!! Hope you get your research done and find a truck that meets your needs. I love my Tradesman CTD!!!

Two totally different transmissions. Viper uses a T56 made by Tremec, and the Ram uses a G56 made by Mercedes.

yea where is this coming from, I corrected that other thread too. The g56 is a basically a dump truck transmission, the TR6060 (newer T56, T56 is dead now) is a performance car transmission. They aren't the same at all.

Also, the tr6060 isn't that great of a transmission in the first place. at least stock. So having a "viper trans" wouldn't be a plus for anyone. Its the same transmission used in the majority of cars (gt500, challengers, Camaros, etc). Its nothing special. Even it says "Viper Spec".
