ok not going to lie but honestly how did this happen? If I am buying a vehicle I am going to do research on it. EVERY HEMI 8 speed ram has a dial shifter. if you were in it for the 8 speed quick research would of uncovered that a 6 spd is on the colum and an 8 speed is on the dash as a dial. theres only 2 transmissions that came on the HEMI 1500's and that is a dead give away. even being skeptical at the dealership you always ask to test drive other vehicles to see the differences or at least look at them, read the stickers, put it all together man. I dont want to sound like an ass but this is on you now..

I also ask for the build sheet if there is not enough info on the sticker. RAM has a free build sheet tool all you do is plug in the vin and it will tell you how it left the factory.

for future reference.. Join an active forum weeks before you plan on buying and search the hell out of the forum and ask questions. do multiple "build my truck" options on the dealers webesite to see how they package vehicles together. NEVER go into a dealer blind, ever.. salesmen will tell you anything you want to get you to buy. Lesson learned here

This is almost as bad as people that want a HEMI and come home with a Pentastar, like how the hell does that even happen?

go to Chrysler. They will do a buy back and replace with proper truck. I do not think you are the only one.

You have a nice Ram Sport with the 6 spd on floor and the HEMI...Yes, that was the dealers fault but since it's been over a year and the truck is used just live with it. You can TRY to ask dealer if he'd kick you back any $$ but 100-1 of that happenin, not after this long

I rented a 2014 8 spd HEMI once and i'm with the other guys here...it was CONSTANTLY shifting and I personally hate that stupid rotary dial. I didn't notice any difference in MPG either. I ended up with a 6 spd HEMI and since I dont tow that often I have no issues at all with my choice and happy I made it.

I have most 160k on my 5 speed which is the same transmission as yours OP without the visible 6th speed. It has been great however the 8 speed is a beast and I understand why you want it and expected you had it. I don’t think you can do anything now but I do understand it.

Most people wouldn’t know what to look for to tell what transmission it has. You trusted the dealer to have it right. You really shouldn’t have to know better that is not your job to be fair.

The 8 speed used in the Ram is simply awesome. I will say gear ratio of the truck will make a difference on the experience no matter which transmission you have. A nice low gear (numerically higher) really helps the 6 speed out where as the 8 speed can do fine with a 3.55 gear if needed.

For what its worth to you..... I bought a New 2013 1500 Ram Laramie in 2013. I traded in my 2011 Ram Laramie 3.92 for it. The Reason I wanted the 2013 was for the new 8 speed, Four corner Suspension. The 8 speed first year was 2013 Rotary Shifter on the dash leaving a "Hole" in the console on the 13's and up from where the floor 6 speed shifter used to be on the 2011. Before 2013 You could get a 2011 bench seat with column shiftier or Buckets with a floor shiftier, both options being 6 speeds. ( Never had any issues with a 6 speed I bought new in 2003 and 2011) The 8 speed was not available for 2500 Ram until the following year. There were certain trim levels for the 1500 in 2013 where you not could get 4 corner suspension as well.

So.....After buying my 2013 1500 8 speed Laramie with 3.55 rear gear ,after getting home I discovered it did not have a 3.55 gear. It had 3.21 with reduced tow/haul loads due to the 3.21. After obtaining a build sheet from Ram it clearly stated 3.21 gear but the Sticker said 3.55 and dealer verified it was 3.55 as well. Dealer tried to switch front and rears out for free ( 4wd ) I said no way I want a 3.55 gear in my new truck by factory. (I had actually settled for a 3.55 after wanting 3.92 but they never had a 3.92 in Black at the lot.) When I told dealer no switch would be done they said too bad!!

I notified mopar of the issue and mopar switched out the truck for one with a 3.92 and a 14 Model due to 2013 Production had stopped. Mopar switched it at no charge to me! Was very fast to produce the truck. The Dealer is a worthless slob and would I never buy any thing from them ever while telling every one I run to not to buy from DELLEN....(Dellen Chrysler in Indianna)

I never herd any thing about the Transmission issues during the 2013 year but its true mopar had issues in 2013. Mopar had issues with some 2014's of a different nature too, but I cannot bring that up due to legal obligations with MOPAR.

If you really want to do something about this, go to the dealer and address it with their management. If you don’t get satisfaction, file an attorney general complaint. Start with the dealer though, because an AG complaint form will probably ask what you’ve done to try and remedy your problem on your own.

Regarding small claims court, if you look through the giant stack of papers you signed at purchase, you probably signed an arbitration clause statement.

Additionally, if you look at dealership advertising, many times in the very tiny print they say that they do their best to be accurate, but it’s up to the customer to verify what is installed.

Interesting ...

Sounds similar to a Carfax originated sale I had gone through with a dealership for a used vehicle in the past. As the majority of a particular trim level had a specific transmission as the default it was reported wrong.

Fortunately it also had extra options not reported correctly and I benefited from that used car dealership not knowing that. It the Kia dealer the OP used had also used just the Carfax info only without a VIN check with the manufacturer they prolly thought it was accurate. After all the Kia dealerships wouldn't ordinarily have Ram truck expertise unless owned by the employees.

Don't get me wrong, using carfax to help know a vehicle's history is a great idea but realize that outside the required traffic incident or insurance related reports it may not be 100% accurate.

On this original transmission issue here's what I think happened. The seller was not an FCA dealer and was offering a used 2013 Ram 1500. In 2013 the standard 1500 equipment was the 3.6 V6 Pentastar motor coupled with the 845RFE, 8-speed transmission. If you've ever noticed the Moroney factory window labels, standard equipment is listed on the extreme left side of the sheet. Optional equipment on the right. In early 2013 all Ram 1500s produced with the 5.7 Hemi engines only came with the 645RFE transmission, either column or console shifters. Later in 2013, the 8HP70 8-speed was offered as an option on Hemi motors. What I think happened is that the selling dealer, not being completely knowledgeable about Ram configurations, saw the 8-speed listed as standard equipment and just concluded that the optional Hemi came with it. I've seen mistakes like this before, in fact on Chevies/GMCs some trucks equipped with the optional Allison transmissions are missed by the third party reseller completely.

As already pointed out, on Ram trucks the 8-speed transmissions are quickly identified by the presence of the dial shifter on the dash.

Best regards,
Dusty

I didn't buy it from a Ram dealer but Kia.

Everyone has to remember that OP didn't buy it from a MOPAR dealer. Obviously, the Kia dealer made a mistake so people that are saying that Chrysler will just swap it out have not caught the part that the OP didn't buy it from Chrysler.

Like everyone else said you gotta do your research. I bought a slightly used 13 Ram Bighorn 5.7 (back in 2014) with the 8 speed along with 3.92 gears. I started my search locally and when nothing panned out I turned to the usual online websites and found several listings advertising their 6 speed trucks as an 8 speed. I always tried to view the interior photos and look at the steering wheel, or dash to confirm it was what I was looking for. Secondly, I would run the Vin number on Rams towing site to see what gears it actually had.
Yes, you can approach the dealer that sold you the truck and explaining the misrepresentation, but at this late date I would not have great expectations of receiving anything. I have seen used car dealers window stickers stating that they try to be accurate, but are not responsible for errors. If you still do business with this dealership such as purchased other vehicles, have your repairs or oil changes done there you have a better chance to get some form of reimbursement.
Start with the salesman and be polite and to the point. If you do not like his/her reply ask to see the used car sales manager. If during your conversation it seems to be going nowhere try suggesting that they could offer you some free oil changes, car washes, undercoating, spray bed liner, etc...as compensation
This is something I have done in the past to settle a problem, or make the deal when things were not going my way. It doesn't always work, but it can't hurt to ask!! As far as the late date of noticing it is a 6 spd vs 8 spd you may need some believable explanation as to why it took you so long to notice. Depending upon the situation I sometimes reverse the roll and tell them how would they feel if they were in my shoes and discover that I have this 6 spd that is not as good as the 8 spd for towing along with the lesser value of the truck because it has a 6 spd.
Good Luck

Nothing you can do about it. Relax and enjoy your truck. Consider it a lesson learned and do your research before buying another vehicle (new or used).
