I have a 16 Ram 1500 Sport and looking to weld up custom bumpers out of 1/4 inch plate with a 4 or 6 inch schedule 40 steel pipe as re-inforcement and bracket mounting. Has any one done something along this line, and would you know what kind of impact could it take?

You could always look into a fab fours bumper. Similar to what your talking about. Any bumper will only be as strong as the frame anyways. Remember the frames are designed to crumple

I welded and grinded all of my frame crumble points so the frame won’t buckle when I installed my go rhino bumpers.
1/4” plate is a bit overkill, and a TON of weight. I recommend 3/16” plate.
