I am considering ordering my new 2019 Ram Limited from the factory because there are certain things I want and others I don't. Having never done this before, I would appreciate any input from people who have ordered from the factory. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

One thing many buyers, who place an order, will find is that there isn't a checklist box for each and every single option item. Rather, there are option groups.

I'd suggest spending some time at the Ram website to see what they are offering in option groups and try to see if your selections/preferred items are included with specific option packages.

Also, go visit a local dealer and sit down with the fleet sales manager (they usually have the most knowledge on the truck equipment optinos, how orders are place and the process) and go over your options wanted list and see how close they can get.

Good luck with your order!

Welcome Airforce. You joined a great forum. All my trucks since 03 have been factory order for exactly the same reason. As stated above go to the RAM.com website take the time to walk through the "build and price" selections. Once you spend some time with it, you will be comfortable making your option selections.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I went on Ram.com and built out the truck I want. I plan to go to the dealership and sit down with my wish list and make it happen. I've heard that it could take anywhere from 8-12 weeks which is okay because I have to turn in my current truck lease.

That is the average "build" time. But once released for shipment to the dealer,,,that can add several weeks. Freight car issues, truck transport issue and weather can surprise you.

The other thing you should be prepared for is that at certain times of the year, the factory won't allow you to order certain options. For example, right now the following Laramie options are not orderable:
  • Level 2 Equipment Group
  • Ram Box Cargo Management System
  • 26 GL Fuel Tank
  • Power Running Boards
  • 4 Corner Air Suspension
  • Dual Pane Panoramic Sunroof
  • Advanced Safety Group
  • Black Appearance Package
  • Sport Appearance Package
Basically everything I want... :(

You might have your dealer double check that. Currently the only thing on that list on restriction is the ram box.

I always custom order my vehicle, but had a little problem this time. Ordered it on Aug. 10 and it just arrived on Nov. 26, but they sent in the wrong color. The order went through correctly but when it got to the paint they just went with a different color. I'm pretty understanding, but FCA's response when the dealer got them on the phone was "Yea, it happens. Reorder it."

It looks like the options that are provided by 3rd party suppliers and that are low volume, tool box, goose neck etc are being restricted in recent orders. Could be the time of year or the change over in Satillo assembly plant from 2500 trucks to cars.

I ordered my Laramie with off road package loaded up like a limited the first part of July. I wanted the bench seat so I went Laramie. It was built on July 30 as I recall. It got shipped out soon after but sat for 5 weeks 300 miles away waiting for truck transport from the train depot. I got it in early September.

Yeah the whole thing is kind of sketchy. I had one dealer tell me no Laramies had ever been built with RamBox. Another told me first that no orders could be placed with L2 equipment, then quoted me the whole list above.

I came home today with a Limited I found on a dealer lot that had everything I wanted but was a second choice color. Still don’t like the chrome window trim.

I was quoted 8-12 weeks also but I still don't have my truck. I ordered it April 23 so today is 32 weeks! Be prepared for a possible extended wait. I'm in Canada though so that might make a difference.

I hope you are shopping for a 1500! The 2500 and 3500 are NOT orderable until January 1, 2019. I have a similar issue, because I want a 2500/3500 DRW, 4x2, with a diesel and a manual transmission. I have visited my dealer and was told that I could not order these models before January 2019! I guess that happens when you put everything into the 1/2 ton versions release!

Glad you found what you wanted.

I haven't had very many new vehicles in my 70 years but I have ordered everyone or rarely found exactly what I wanted to order on a lot.

These dealers/sales people will tell you anything. They want to sell what they have. I ordered my Ram 2500 4x4, Longhorn 6.4, crew cab, long bed, snow chief at the end of February and drove it off the lot 03/31/2018. I was prepared to wait 8 weeks as I just missed the "order window". The "order specialist" at the dealer called me to let me know the order was processed as a rush. I would have waited 12 weeks or more to get what I wanted. I imagine they wanted the deal closed in the first quarter.

What is interesting is I first went to Classic in Denton to talk about ordering. They told me that FCA was not allowing any orders of 2500 PUs unless it was a Cummings as they were getting ready for the 2019s. I called BS on it. The 2018 2500s had been out less than 6 months. Upon leaving they said they would call when the "freeze" was lifted. No calls in nine months. Bad follow up.

I went down the interstate to Huffins and ordered it exactly like I wanted except for the color as my color was not available with the Longhorn package. He showed me the proof.
I even got the discount I was entitled to through The Wife's work. I wish Classic would have followed up so I could brag to them. HA

I have found over the years that I know more about the product than the sales person. They make it up as they go. I do my research. When I was in sales I did my research so I would know more than the customer.

I make it a habit of never asking a sales person questions about maintenance. Most only know how to get to the sales floor, with help.

Same thing happened to me.. salesman didn't enter the colour code, so I got white.
I wasn't going to wait another 2 months for another truck tho.

So lesson learned.. confirm with the salesman once the truck is ordered that everything is proper on the build sheet.
