I've had RAM trucks for a few decades and the AC sucked on them all, when the cabin filter is installed. Removing that filter allows the AC to blow with full force.

The issue is debris and such will eventually clog the fins. So I've just used folded screen to keep the big stuff out. I could never find an aftermarket filter solution that would allow full air flow.

Anyone find or make a high flow screen / filter?

Some trucks didn't even come with an option to add a filter. I had to cut open the airbox on mine and buy the door off another vehicle.

Since the introduction of the 3rd Gen trucks in 2002 and the reiteration of the 2006 DR I have used a screen as my cabin air filter.

When I bought my 2011 RAM 3500 I made a removable door/plate for the HVAC housing. I cut the housing open just in front of the evaporator and I used my plastic welder/plastic injection tool and installed 4 mounting bosses on that housing so I could attach the door to the housing with matching fasteners. I shaved and sanded the housing flat to remove a couple of the ribs on the housing so my door would lay flat and I used a gel seal to prevent from leaking during operation.

The 4th GEN trucks seem more susceptible to dirt/hair/debris on the evaporator than previous generations for some reason but the removable screen eliminated the inevitable of having to remove the HVAC housing to clean the evaporator.

I always rip mine, works like a bypass filter, eventhough a lot of air comes through the tear, the filter still gets dirty. Been doing this for a decade or better on both our cars. remember a time where we didn't have cabin filters, lol.

i have a question: If you never use the "recirculate" option, then the air is pulled from the outside only. Correct? If that being the case, how does cigarette odors get on the A/C coils and end up reeking with that smell?

Does it still recirculate a small amount even with that button off?

All of the air that goes through the stock filter location whether the system is in recirculation or not.
cigarette odors just permeate throughout the vehicle, the vehicle recirculation damper usually cycles closed when the vehicle is off then opens to the outside after the vehicle is turned on.

I agree, have had rams for 20 years 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Gen and ac blows super weak on all of them!

I just had to replace the evap core on my 4th Gen, it was leaking but as I found out it was near totally clogged with dog hair and dirt. Blows quite a bit better now!

As far as cabin filters, I added one and am using a k&n. I tried a wix disposable filter first but it really cut down the flow. The k&n flows much better, probably doesn't filter as well but I'm sure it does a good enough job to keep the evap core clean.
