Summit racing used to sell an aluminum rack that did the same but sealed the catch jug so you'd not be getting dust in it. No idea if they still do. Funnel King BOB (Bottom of the Bottle) is another ready made option. About $20 on Amazon.

Way back when, when oil came in cans, the thingie on the gas pump island that held them was called the "oil buoy" and drained the cans into a catch can, also. We would sell that mix oil for $0.25 a qt. Worked great in old Ford 292 and 312's that used more oil than gas.

I was told never to mix oil. If your using say Mobil 1 do not mix Valvoline with it because even though they are both quality oils quality oils they have different additives that when mixed can become corrosive and cause premature wear or damage to the engine. The person that told me this was in the gears and lubrication dept.of NASA so I believe him.

Before the days of ready made assembly lube, we mixed motor oil, usuallly drippings, 50/50 with STP and put it in a pump oiler.
