I have a 2014 6.7C with 176k. My second Cummins. The only non superficial (interior lights, window switches, tire sensors etc.) Issues I've ever had are all emissions system related. I drive nationwide for work, aprox 40k - 60k mi per year. I basically live out of my truck. I "probably" idle it too much, and moving forward (after another $5k down the drain for dpf repair) I'll be significantly cutting down on idle time and when I am idling I recently read running up the idle to 900+ rpm helps. I'd love the delete but cant figure out how to beat the emissions thing. Are there any small APU systems that bypass the dpf system? Are there any deletes that leave the stock trash in place and pass a sniffer? Please help me with my dpf nightmare. Thank you!

You either delete or you don't. People that have to deal with emission testing just put everything back on once a year to pass then take it back off. There are emission complaint tunes (not deletes) but all the equipment is still in place and used so don't think that will work for you.

What exactly failed? What were the codes? $5K seems pretty extreme.

And yes, idling is not good. Running idle up to 900rpm will do nothing but clog the filter even more. Any time the engine is running with low EGT's it is not burning off the soot so that is bad. Do you tow at all?

They say dpf filter, cats and a couple sensors. I had a convenient dealership do a force regen and flash when I got a "filter 100% full" warning that wouldn't go away even after hours of highway driving. Its happed before and the force/flash always works but I used a different shop and they destroyed my def system. I had it shipped to a shop I trust in PA and they gave me a quote of $4800. The shop that wrecked it said $7-10k. I tow, but not always, usually just to pick up and run equipment and materials. I haul always. My running pack-out puts the truck at aprox 10500lbs.

You could always try to register the truck in a place where Smog checks aren’t a thing unless you buy or sell. Where are you located at?
