I've got a 2014 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.7L. Every once in a while I'll try to start my truck and it has a slight delay before it turns over. Not sure if it's the ignition or alternator. If anyone knows or has had the same problem let me know.

Alternator has nothing to do with starting, ignition has nothing to do with cranking over. Worn spark plugs or weak fuel pressure could cause an an extended crank once already cranking. Depending on how long it's been sitting, it could be the modules waking up from sleep mode.

I had an issue with my 2014 Lonestar 5.7L. Sometimes when I would crank it over, it would take longer than normal for the motor to actually start firing. So the actual process of the motor cranking from the starter motor was longer (I would describe this as a delayed start).

Took it to the dealership. They finally thought they found the problem and it was something with the fuel pump (I really can not recall). They had to order the part so I got my truck back and they never called me back. The truck didn't really seem to do it ever again (prior to me trading the truck in) so I just did not mess with it.

From the first time it happened to when I traded the truck in (roughly 8-9 months) I encountered this problem about 6-9 times sporadically. Also this would happen on both cold and hot starts.

Hi QMichaud3210!

If you decide to take your vehicle to a dealership for diagnosis, I would be be happy to follow up with them for you. Just send a PM to our page with your VIN and contact information if that's the case!

Do you mean that the starter doesn't engage right away or you trying to say that it just cranks longer before firing sometimes??

My truck has done that once in a while since day on, I just thought it was normal and didn't worry about it.
