What’s the pros and cons of buying a deleted diesel. How many mikes is to many. Found a 2017 2500 4x4 with manual trans and 25k mikes on it for 39k.

Do they have the paperwork? Who did it? Those would be first things I would look at. Why they selling? If everything checks out good it would be a good buy.

You realize you'd be hopping into an unknown vehicle that has no warranty, right?

Me: unless I new the previous owner personally I would walk away.
I have a very hard time trusting any stranger with anything (especially telling me the truth & all the facts).

Even the dealerships themselves will attempt to deceive you in some way shape or form.

As stated above: No Warranty!

The big thing is no warranty. If you live in a state where they don't check emissions, I would think it is a common practice. IIRC, a tuner must be used to turn off the codes. If the owner supplies the tuner and deleted parts, it might be a good truck.

I wouldn't touch a delete truck with a 10 foot pole. (unless, like SyN said I knew the owner)

Too many things that could be/go wrong with it and you have Zero warranty.

Go over and read a bit on Cummins Forum. I know the deleted guys will jump up and down but I would say 75% of guys having issues with trucks over there are deleted.

I own a deleted/tuned 2011 Cummins and if it would have been a 13 or newer I would have left it completely stock. The DPF (diesel particulate filter) models (2010-2012) are crap in stock form. There are plenty of stock 2013 and newer trucks in that price range and under and I would advise you to look for one. I have my truck set up just like I want it with B&W roll over gooseneck ball, roll-n-lock bed cover, ARP head studs (need them with the tune so I don't blow another head gasket), and some other goodies that I won't bore you with but I sometimes think about selling mine (4th gen) and buying a 5th gen Cummins.

FWIW you can get a brand new basic diesel for $39-40k, 4x4 4-door tradesman models.

It still has the factory warranty for up to a 100,000 miles on that engine drivetrain.
Nope. Once you start removing emissions stuff, that 100k drive train protection is gone.

Not to mention, I don't trust the EPA, and they could arbitrarily change all diesel rules over night. Most folks who deleted threw all of the stock stuff away, and all it takes is getting pulled over by DOT one time to ruin your day. Having to buy all of those components will run you $8K
