Deployable running boards

85,000 miles on my Limited and have had zero issues with my deployable running boards. My wife
on the other hand doesn't always pay attention when she opens the door and gets banged in the shins occasionally because she stands too close....

My 2024 limited 1500 has them, only 12 months and about 6500 miles and no issues. Not driven in the winter (NE Ohio) and garaged. The only (minor) issue is keeping them clean. Not sure how to find the feature to change their operation. This vehicle is so feature rich it's easy to get lost navigating all the controls and options.

i believe you can set them to remain out via the apps settings, but, i wouldn't recommend it.

I have Amp Research retractable boards on my 2017 with 110K miles. Just keep the moving parts clean. A good flush usually does the job. I also hit the moving parts with a little water resistant spray lube. Mine work great.

I have used AMP RESEARCH boards on my last three trucks. They deploy and retract quickly. A "jam prevention" mode built in to the system prevents the boards from retracting and hurting things like your curious dog who has stuck his head where is does not belong. I always spring for the dash mounted override switch that will lock the boards down, up or automatic operation. The AMP RESEARCH boards are about 6"' wide & have a textured surface that helps maintain footing when your shoes are wet, muddy or loaded with snow. And the boards have LED lighting for night time. You'll drop about $2K on a set installed. But worth every penny in my opinion. I squirt some motor oil my board's pivot points every 6 months. No problems with Iowa winters, salt and road deicer.

Which one did you get? There are 3 that I've found...Power Step Vision series; power step smart or power step xtreme.

Yes you can, but they retract when you put it in gear.

I’ve had two trucks with them.
21 model I think I had to open door for them to come out. This new 25, I just touch the outer door handle to unlock or open and they deploy. Instantly. Bit noisy though!

I have them on my 2016 1500 since day one, so far no problems at all! I really like the clean look (see my avatar).

I have used AMP Research on my last 3 trucks. 2014 Laramie, 2017 Rebel, and current 2024 Rebel. I have never had an issue and will not go back to fixed tube style steps.

Once every two or three months I leave them down and wash the hinges out. I live in SC and near the beach. So the side and bed steps collect sand. But never have had an issue with them.

I have had them for 85K miles on a Ford Expedition, no issues. If you go off road, they are pretty easy to taco. That’s big bucks to fix compared to a nerf bar.

We had them on our Expedition and I didn't care for them. At around 60k the driverside started having some issues with retracting when it was really hot outside. It was like the motor sensed too much current draw trying to retract them so it would release and redeploy the running board. It took a few tries opening and closing the door each time that happened to get them to close. We live in the south so no salt, etc... They look cool, but it's a pain when they decide not to work right and expensive to repair/replace.

I purchased a used 2022 with 50.000 and the running boards worked intermittently. Sometimes deploy, sometimes not. Sometimes retracted, often not.
I had a F150 Platinum that had the same running boards with the same problem.
I had the dealer remove the retractable and replace with fixed. Just my own experience.

I had the same problems until I lubed them. No problems since. Dealer didn't have a clue beyond "corrosion which isn't covered by warranty".

Spot on, I lube them with silicone spray after every weekly wash at the wand wash and they work perfect, even in REALLY cold weather.

I have Aries power steps. The top is in a position like a regular nerf bar, and the lower portion deploys. So it gives 2 steps of into the truck. Much needed for the wife with one replacement hip and the second that needs replacing.
