Posting this mostly as a warning to others with older tuners. FWIW, I'm generally pleased with DS, but....

Ta while back I purchased a used I2 for my '12 1500 so I could change my idle and fan settings, and maybe add a time if I dona cam swap. The unit worked fine but since I wasn't ready to start wrenching I didn't keep it married to my vehicle... Good thing too.

I'm finally ready to start wrenching, and the first thing I did was pull out the I2 and update the firmware. That didn't go so well. It froze during the update and DS tech help (which was great) was unable to complete or reverse the update. Basically told me it's dead because of the failed update process. Ok ok that is what it is, but during the call the tech said he was on a chat with other service reps and they said that updating the older units makes them freeze and they can't be recovered.

Had I known this I would not have updated. The unit worked fine. But their website gives no warnings and the instructions say to update before used.

Lesson one is to never update your older diablo tuners. Just roll with them.

I know enough about electronics to know the unit probably is recoverable by the company, but due to age they won't support the failure they caused.

Lesson two is that no matter how good your service is, if you break someone's toy and don't make it right (sorry, a discount non a new tuner isn't good enough), they may not stay a customer. I have a tight budget due to a baby in the house and I can't afford to make this kind of double investment. So when I buy a new tuner unfortunately it won't be a DS.

Funny you mention that, I had an old Diablosport Intune that I gave to a coworker today and when I attempted to tune his truck with it, it just kept going around in circles trying to read the PCM but not getting anywhere. I gave up and now that I’ve read your story I’m glad that I did!

Mine was doing that also. Turned out to be a bad cable.
Works great now.

I went with the Trinity T2 and have never had issues with mine. I have been emailing Sean back and forth getting every mod updated to my 2011 1500 5.7. It’s been great for the last 4 years I have had it installed and mounted on the dash. I use it to see all the levels and monitor as Im driving. I update it when required. Haven’t needed one yet though. I have mine hooked up to WIFI and it lets me automatically know when updates are available.

Actually I’ve had pretty bad luck with tuners in the past. Used to sell them on eBay for years. Buy cheap used ones and then flip them. Got one one time plugged in in my dad‘s truck to make sure it was unlocked and sure as **** as soon as I plugged it in and turned the key on it went to programming away and bricked the ECM. Cost me $1000 basically to get it all put back to the way it was and my dad was super ****tin. Last time I ever plugged in anything in any of his vehicles……..

I've never been a fan of the Diablo experience all the way back to the predator u7137. I always have had one hell of a time with failed attempts to update their programmers and failed attempts writing backup configs and new tunes. Last time I messed with my t1000, I had to update it. Took 6 hours to update the damn thing. Another few hours to get the tune to stick into the truck.

I had 2 Diablo Sport Tuners. They both failed. Zero support from Diablo Sport. I swear the guy I talked to, was on something.

Never again will I ever tune anything. I will NEVER buy anything Diablo Sport again.

Well, potentially tossing a lesson three (never give up) out there, I've contacted Diablo sport and politely asked if there's any way to elevate the matter to the next level and request a more appropriate remedy. I'll post an update if they respond.

I switch to HP tuner last year. What a difference it is to actually be able to make your own adjustments and not having to send emails back and fort for a simple tweak.

Glad to read these claims, and others from other forums, about the ongoing problems with Diablo Sport tuners. I have my truck tuned with my SuperChips CORTEX Tuner since 2014 with zero problems. When and if I switch to a performance cam that will require a tune, I will go with a different tuner.

Well it took a handful of emails and polite but firm requests for assistance or escalation but Diablo sport issued an RMA and I was able to return my unit for service. I received a replacement about a week after sending it in so I can't complain about the service or turn around time once I made it through the customer service gauntlet and the RMA was issued. :)

Wish they had an inline tune not requiring an PCM swap. I've been happy with my Edge Pulsar - not sure if this was always owned by Diablosport. I spent a lot of time on here and looking several years ago before I settled on it.

I'm no expert, but I think the PCM swap has to do with the year of the vehicle and not the tuner. Not required on my '12. If it was I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Yes - it has to do with when FCA started locking PCM's so they couldn't be tuned. I understood it was 2017 MY trucks and after.
