Welp, looks like they are gonna offer the Power Wagon with a diesel now. No factory winch though, and 20” wheels. Payload numbers are high too, so assuming they got stiffer coils under it. Hmmmmmmm…

They've offered that for awhyle. Just don't understand why they couldn't offer it with the winch.

Maybe someone can help me understand something - if I'm using the Power Wagon for its designed purpose, why would I choose a diesel engine over a gas engine when considering the weight alone? Then we have all the diesel emission compliance parts to contend with - will off-roading be enough to keep the regens happy? I simply don't see any benefit to a Power Wagon diesel!

The only thing I can think of is if you wee wanting front and rear lockers and sway bar disconnects on a diesel.

The numbers you posted show the diesel is a negative off-road.

I'm really hoping someone has something I'm not thinking of because at the moment it's a big no for me. I think Stellantis could have gotten creative somewhere else - like ridding the world of MDS.

You wouldn't...but how many bought new actually are?

This is cheap for them to build since it's all existing parts. It's just a Rebel with a front locker and swaybar disconnect. It gives them something to compete against the F-250 Tremor by one upping it a bit.

A diesel pw would be ok but I believe the reason that they don’t have one is because the motor is alot lighter

I think you make a great point - It's cheap to get off the ground, they already have the parts and doesn't take much thought to bring it together. Well, let's wait and see what the sales numbers come in as.

I'd like to walk into their boardroom and write on their whiteboard, "How about we redesign the HD line up?" "Maybe, just maybe, we can come up with something better than UConnect?" "Gosh, do we dare orient the replacement in landscape mode?" "Do our customers really want all these fancy vehicle electronics or would they prefer simple knobs?" "Has anyone in this room considered asking our customers what's wrong with our vehicles and what they'd like to see?" "Anyone who leaves this room before these, and another 50 questions, get answered satisfactorily can leave your resignation letter at the door!!!!!"

I've gotten the chance to be in focus groups a few times now, and even then they never want to concentrate on pain points with existing features. They want to know if you'd pay more for a new feature or if you'd still consider a truck with or without this component. Like they were asking if you'd buy an HD truck with a turbo 6 cylinder about the time the Hurricane came out in the half tons.

It's a lot of gizmos to add profit margin. Some is potentially useful, some is just...wtf?

Yeah and for the most part it’s not pollution I believe that the diesel engine is quite a bit heavier than the gas 6.4

If you're lucky enough to pay cash and don't care about a warranty, I suppose ;)
I don't care about warranty at all. Don't trust dealerships at all. Bring it in for one thing and next thing they're doing some retarded recall on it and then your fuel mileage goes down among other things. I'll do all my work. I'd love if I could buy a brand new truck with no warranty.

The PW rides a lot better than most 2500s. I can see the diesel version being very popular with rig workers, field operators and heavy equipment operators. For the most part they don't tow or carry loads with their pickups, but being able to fuel up from the rig or equipment diesel is a big plus so they almost all drive some sort of diesel pick up. For the most part 1500s don't standup well to lease roads and gravel as a full time diet and no rigs or hd equipment places has gasoline storage on site.

This may turn out to be a good seller, for none of the reasons Stellantis thinks it will.

This one probably won't ride better since it'll need to be sprung for that diesel weight and it's on the 20" rims. The sway bar disconnect won't work above a certain speed, I forget what it is off the top of my head but around 20mph.

I wonder which way the price will cut on this vs the F-250 diesel Tremor?

Not that im aware of. As far as i know, they still havnt produced them yet.

Winch is a no go due to the placement of something on the diesel motor (intercooler i think).

Yes, it's the intercooler. It's something of a scape goat, though, as it really just means Ram doesn't see it as profitable to do the necessary redesign of a new bumper or resize/relocate the intercooler. Ford offers it on their diesel HD Tremors (and gas turbo half tons), but does warn it reduces airflow to the "frontal coolers" in the literature.

I run heavy equipment for a living the free fuel would be ok but you don’t always get it. What most operators carry in their trucks is a slip tank to fuel the equipment. The reason I don’t have a diesel truck is that they can be hard to start at-30c and I know that gas jobs can be too. There’s benefits to a diesel but there are drawbacks to
