Sorry if this is a repost, I did a search and came up empty.

I am looking at getting a new bumper for my 2011 1500. All of the options I have been looking at only fit the 13-18 trucks and not my 09-12. What is the difference? Is it just the mounting interface that I could do some chopping and welding to adjust?

Thanks.

Far as I know, the biggest differences are the 8 speed transmission, electronic steering and the radios. The 8 speed became available sometime in the 13 model year. Not sure about the steering or radio/computer. An air suspension became available in 2016 ? Doesn't seem to work well in cold weather.

Fog lights are different along with the grill. The 09-12 have a flat bottom to the grill, the 13-18 have a cut in each corner of the lower portion.

I never noticed those cutouts on the grill. To put a bumper for the 2013+ on a 2011 would it be as easy as putting in a 2013 grill with it or are all of the mounting locations going to be different?

math was never my strong point, but I'm gonna say 4 and 5 respectively.

Yeah, the vertical fogs came in 11 or 12 as I recall. Personally I like my horizontal ones.

The vertical fogs didn't come in until 2013. If someone has vertical fogs before that then maybe the bumper was replaced with a newer one and that might answer the OP's question.

Wouldn't mind seeing pics of your truck to verify.

Like others said, 09-12 have flat bottom grill, 13+ have the bottom grill corners clipped, so that changes the geometry of how the upper bumper cover “sweeps up” into the grill. I guess the question should be, can a 13+ bumper AND grill be installed on a 09-12?
And, of course, the fogs would need to be changed if you have them.

What about headlights??

I have 2012 with the 2 in 1 bulb (dual?) in chrome. I want to get a factory set of black headlights. I have part numbers for a set that show 2013-18 but people say they fit all years?? Is this because the 2013 was the first year the black lights became available?

All headlights between 09-18 for 1500’s and HD’s (2010+) are the same as far as shape and mounting. I’m just not sure about wiring between 09-12 & 13-18.

I just tore my factory lights apart and painted them and resealed them. Pretty sure I have done that on every truck I have owned since I was 16. I will try to get some pics...

I think I am just going to order the Go Rhino BR5 bumper and a 13+ grill. I’v got a plasma touch, welder, and plenty of breacher tape; I’m sure I can figure out a way to make it fit.

Yep, you're correct. Thought I'd seen the '12 models with them at a dealership when I was looking for my first Ram. Must have been early '13 models. Wasn't in the market for brand new at the time so I didn't look too hard.

Headlights are all the same as far as mounting and fitment but the 13+ take a different harness.

Where are you located and do you want to sell the duals (if they're in good shape)? I'm looking for a set to retrofit.

I'm in MA, I would have to have something else to put in first obviously so it could be a while

From what I've researched its doable to swap the bumper and grill from a 13+ on to a 9-12' model. I think the only issue is the lower grill clips for the grill. The 13 grill is a little taller and sits further down into the bumper, than on the earlier gen 4. Otherwise i think the mounting points are al ln the same. Mind you we are talking about like models and not trying to go from a slt to a sport bumper.

Wiring is exactly the same.

Headlight differences:
09-12: Low trim models come with Dual lights, higher trim come with Quads.
13+ Low trim get Quads, High trim get 13+ OEM Projectors

09-12 Quads and 13+ quads are the same with wiring, the only difference is inside between the low beam area and turn signal the one years set has a bigger defined area where there are 3 "dashes" or "lines" for design purposes only.

Any 09-12 Ram you can plug Quad headlights into. That means if yours originally came with Dual lights ( 1 bulb shared for high and low beam) then you can just plug in and bolt up the quads.

Any 09-18 Ram you can install the 13+ OEM Projectors into them. They bolt right up, but you need a plug adapter harness that runs from some supplies for $68 and others charge up to $140.

Anymore questions about the headlights just lemme know
