I'm trying to decide between the B&M 10396
b-and-m-diff-cover-inside.jpg

and MAG-HYTEC D12

Dodge-12-9_25-back-300x275.jpg

Right now I'm leaning towards the B&M (pic is sideways). It's cheaper and the inside is much more rounded and looks like it will aid in oil flow better.

Thoughts and opinions?

Banks isn't making anything for the 1500 only the 14 bolt 11.5". I watched all of the videos and the reason I was leaning towards the B&M is the shape of the inside is smooth and rounded like OEM but it's cast aluminum with cooling fins and gives 1/2 quart extra capacity.
If Banks was going to make something for the 9.25" I would probably go that route but right now I'm looking for second best.

I've had MAG-HYTEC covers on the last 3 4th Gen trucks I've had. Never, not once, did I ever have a problem with a rear end-and I checked it frequently. No excessive gear wear, no noise no problems. Banks does a lot of good stuff, but on this subject I think he's out to lunch---and yes I watched his videos. All I can comment on is my real life experience-on the road everyday.

I had a mag-hytec on my 06. had 83,000 on it all most towing and no problems. for my 2018 Im going with PML. I already have the deep trans pan. and its great. mag is very nice. but not worth the exrta money.

I too have the MagHytec cover and have never had any issues with anything not getting lubricated. I’ve towed my camper from MA to FL and back and MA to Utah and back which included towing it up the Ike gauntlet. My diff is perfectly fine with the MH cover. I agree with @Pull Ya Banks knows his stuff but in this case I think he was trying to make some money on his diff cover....

I would stick with stock myself. My reasoning... Google banks diff cover and watch the mini series on YouTube. His testing of a ton of aftermarket covers reveals some interesting info.
Most do more harm than good.

Okay, I've watched all these videos that I could find. Did I miss something, or did they never finish the series? Video 2 of 3 is the latest I could find (where is 3 of 3?) with another short one showing a prototype of their differential cover. It seems to be kind of dropped by Banks, it's been almost a year.

They're still apparently applying for patents and in development stages yet, somebody on here posted that there should be more follow up coming soon. My personal theory on diff covers,is the factory one works pretty damn good,is engineered to control oil flow over the top of the ring gear, and is already included in the purchase price of the truck.Nobody can prove the aftermarket covers on a 1500 do squat to promote longevity of the ring/pinion and bearings,so if it ain't broke don't fix it,spend the money you'd spend on an un needed diff cover somewhere else.

^^^ Thank you!!

It makes me chuckle all the guys saying their aftermarket covers don't hurt the ring/pinion and bearings, but not one of them can prove it does anything to promote longevity over the factory cover on a 1500.

Neither can Dodge ! If its anything like the rest of the truck, parts are made by the cheapest bidder.

I bought mine to add capacity and ease of maintenance.
