Do amps really care what they do?

I realize that is kind of an odd statement, but here is my set-up and my question. I have a 2018
Ram with the Alpine system. I have already purchased the DSR1 to use a DSP. My plan is to power the front door, rear door, and corner dash speakers all on separate channels (so a total of 6). I have replaced the factor sub with the drop in Pioneer unit. I have replaced the dash corner speakers with JL C2-350's. I haven't quite decided on what to use for the doors yet.

So, I looked at the 8 channel JL amp at around $750. My question is I can buy two 4 channel amps much cheaper. Does it matter if I use two 4 channel amps (say one for the front doors and dash corners and the other for the rear doors and sub)? Or would it be better to buy the 8 channel amp?

I would go with a dedicated sub amp and a 6 channel. Run as many amps as you like as long as you have room.

Agree. Class D for subs and a/b for speakers. At least that’s what the standard was about 8 years ago lol.

I agree, but mostly I like the power supply for the sub amp seperate because sub amps usually face the most load. I'm running a JL audio xd8008 as a 6 channel for rear, dash and front doors and an xd6001 for my subs.

I wouldn't amp the rear doors.

The downside to running one amp as opposed to multiple is if the one amp ( 6 channel etc ) has an issue you are now out most of your system. Where as multiple amps if one dies your only out those channels.

One amp makes for a cleaner install less room, multiple amps gives more options on power per channel versatility but takes more room and wiring
