Does anyone know when they switched?

So, my dealer is willing to give me almost four grand more on mine as a trade effectively making it nearly retail price if we pick up an existing truck since it is Ram month instead of ordering. Since this setup is quite new the reality of lot-rot is likely to just not exist.

What I am having a hard time with is determining what trucks are the new set up for suspension, and the resulting other upgrades/towing capacity, and what ones are the old set up.

Does anyone know how to determine that using build sheets and window stickers online, short of physically seeing the vehicle?

This dealerships salesman, who is supposed to be their truck "expert", told me the gear ratio for the Cummins was lowered to 3.42 with this all new suspension/frame set up, is that true?

Really struggling to figure out what is what on the dealerships' locator system they have short of calling every single dealer and asking them to walk out and look, which they are not willing to do.

Help? LOL

I would never buy a Cummins with that gear, if it is true I would look at an older truck or plan on switching it. I would make the salesmen get you that information and put it in writing or don't buy the truck. tell them that and watch how fast they get it. You might need to get another salesman if that guy isn't helping you, ask to talk to a supervisor. I always say buy local if you can, give him a second chance and tell him how important all the information is. GL, B

The 2013 Cummins 2500s are 3.42 and the frame is the upgrade 50 ksi steel. Believe me, I own one, the 6.7L Cummins paired with 3.42 is certainly no slouch! You cannot get the Cummins with anything other than 3.42 for the SRW from the factory. If you are going for a 13, you will need to take from what is at the dealers since that MY is no longer being built. The 14s have a new suspension.

I noticed this as well when looking at the '14s while getting my truck serviced. All the 2500s Cummins had 3.42s.

I have 3.42s on mine as well and they pull quite well although I have nothing to compare to... all the 2500s I drove had 3.42s.

Let's just say that the 2013s+ have more pulling capability than your casual tower has a need for; in fact, it has more capability than even many of the serious towers need. When you start talking DRW 3500s with Aisin trannies, that's overkill that overkill would call overkill. ...I'm talking, you need a CDL to pull what it CAN pull.

If you just happened to find a 3500 SRW with an Aisin I would jump on that like crazy since overkill is also insurance that you can't kill it doing normal stuff. They did not have Aisin in 2500 as option until 2014 so it would have to be 3500 and being it is expensive I doubt you find one but hey always a chance. I am sure with the Cummins and 3.42 you are fine. Maybe someone can get you the ratios of the HD transmissions and that gear so you know how it would compare to 3.73 or whatever bump up was before they switched.
