Does the "Off-Road Group" option affect ride quality?

Looking at a 2019 1500 Longhorn (pic attached) to possibly purchase. It has the "Off-Road Group" option for $795 listed on the Window Sticker (copy attached). It does also have the "4-Corner Air Suspension", and it comes with 20" wheels.

My big question is: does the "Off-Road Group" option negatively affect ride quality? I am mostly interested in ride quality, especially since I live in an area of Rhode Island where the roads are ATROCIOUS. I am wanting to buy a RAM with the air suspension because I have seen/heard nothing but rave reviews about the plush ride.... BUT .... I am concerned that this "Off-Road Group" option might somehow mess up that plush ride????

All comments welcome. I'm gonna drive and maybe buy this tomorrow (9/27/2024). Thanks!

I believe the off-road group is just a 1" lift and a skid plate or two. I think that just means it has upgraded Bilstein shocks instead of the base level shocks. I'm not aware of it causing any ride quality issues.

From what I've read, it will ride nice with the 1" lift and air ride. I've been watching the classifieds and hoping to find someone selling the 1" lift suspension of a Rebel (no air ride). I'm just going to do 33's, so I wouldn't want more than 1".

Why would you trust us speculators on the interwebs, go find trucks with standard, off road package and air suspension at dealers and test drive them all. You may have to look around at several dealers to find them. Not just a 5 minute around the block but a good test drive through whatever rough roads you can find, manhole covers etc. If you still aren’t sure, go back and do it again. If you sound serious enough the salespersons shouldn’t put up too much of a fuss, lol

I have the off road package on my 2021 2500. It is 1 inch taller and has bilstien shocks, which on my 96 also rode far better than the standard OEM.

I drove both, I like the ride of this one much better than the non offroad. If I drove this offraod on real rough ground more I would actually stiffen the ride up. I has too much walloow for my liking on real rough trail with lots of holes and humps. My 96 has leaf springs and has way less wallow on real rough ground but does not ride near as nice on pavememt or good gravel raods. The 2021 is like driving a car compared to the 96. .

I do NOT have air suspension as it gets to 55 below here and that is not air friendly. I would not have OEM air on a pickup here, though I do have it on my wifes Jeep GC and my Lexus but both park in a heated garage. The pickup does too but it also spends nights outdoors lots of days in the winter when traveling, hunting etc.

Interesting..... I've read many posts and watched tons of vids on the RAM air suspension, and 99% of the comments have been glowingly (and I mean OVERWHELMINGLY) positive.

Do you have one particular gripe about it that you don't like??

Yeah I live were its -40 and everyone I know has deleted it so far.
LOL, yeah, I know what you mean. I was born in Halifax, NS. My mother grew up on a farm in rural NS, and in her day they had snow drifts that were as high as the tops of telephone poles! CA can get chilly, no doubt.

So does it ride better with the air and off road package, than the same pickup with standard suspension?
Never drove one with standard suspension. It rides good and has all the options I wanted....... and no eTorque (the one option I truly didn't want). It was really difficult to find one optioned out like this, so I didn't want to miss out on it. I plan on replacing the ORG shocks with standard shocks.

Suggest before you go to that expense, you take one with Standard shocks for a drive first. You may find the ORGs actually ride a whole bunch better. I know on the 2500 the Bilstiens in the off road package give a far smoother ride than the stock shocks.

Nah, not for me. I drive easy and don't want stiff ride.
I have the standard shocks in my big horn and it's smoother than any truck I've ever had. I'd like the Rebel 1" take offs, but wondered if the ride will be worse or too stiff.

Bilstein 5100 were too stiff on my Jeep, but never felt them on a truck.

A bit late in that you have gotten the truck already.
I am pleased with the ride and comfort of my "19" Larimie with the off road package and the air suspension. My truck is "NOT" garaged and spends many cold nights outside and has had no issues with the air suspension.
