My 2019 RAM 2500 with 60,000 miles started telling me that the DPF is full and would regen for days at a time. I finally took it to a dealer and I’m being told that the DPF is plugged and needs to be replaced. The quote is $3,000.

As it turns out the DPF is not covered by the emissions warranty (WTF???) and the warranty is only 36,000 miles.

I have opened an incident with RAM Cares and I’m waiting to hear if they will do anything to help.

I’ve driven diesels for a long time, and worked for an upfitter where we dealt with MB Sprinter diesels a lot. The expected life of a DPF is about 250K-300K miles on a Sprinter.

Is this short DPF life the norm for the RAM?

Note: I am not interested in DPF deletes or anything like that.

Emission warranty is "supposed" to be 80k, with that said I do not know anyone who has had to have their DPF replaced under it so not sure what the coverage is on that but would assume it's 80k?

Do you idle a lot? Really wish they would go with a DPF design that lends itself to cleaning easier.

Last I checked the truck had about 1200 hours on it, maybe 200 idling. I don’t idle excessively, I think. Most of my driving is highway miles, towing a 8K trailer, but with a smattering of city/backroads.

The HD diesel trucks have a 5yr/50K miles federally mandated warranty on all emissions components. There is also an 8yr/80K mile warranty on the system catalyst, but from what I've been reading it usually involves having to complain to Ram to get them to cover it.

RAMcares is telling me the warranty on the DPF is 36K. Would the “system catalyst” include the DPF?

Tell RamCares to get their head outta their A$$ and get your vehicle fixed. You can always disconnect the DPF and clean it yourself with Purple Power. Or get rid of the crappy emissions.

Well they're FoS on 36K miles as it's 50K minimum per federal mandate that all the emissions parts are covered.
The DPF isn't actually a catalyst per say, with the Cummins it uses a separate DOC. Contact Ram corporate in writing to find out if it's covered. You may have to contact the EPA also. Something was definitely wrong that the DPF plugged up requiring replacement in that few of miles.

RAMcares just called me back. They don't care.

According to them the DPF is a filter and thus a maintenance item.

They're not interested in helping.

**** like this really ****** me off. A buddy on the Camaro forum had an injector go out. GM told him it is not powertrain but emissions which is only 3/36.

WTF!

Have you talked to the dealership manager and/or owner? Don't rely on just the service writer.

I bet you could find lots of DPF's for sale in non emission testing states. Just saying.

I had a a DEF pump failure at about a year ago at around 60k. It was quoted at about $3000 to fix it. I had a great Service Rep contract Corporate and Ram agreed to cover 50% of the repairs and it cost me about $1400 but that included changing fluids in the transmission, transfer case and both differentials.

Sounds like you got screwed if it went from $3000 to $14000! Or those were some kind of gold plated fluid containers.

Sorry, I should have checked what I wrote before posting. It was $1400 not $14000.
