So im trying to find a solution to this issue without reverting back to stock...

Im getting unbearable drone with the 18" magnaflow, it wasnt that bad when I first installed it but it seems to be getting worse. I have the y pipe done and I have jba shorties coming in next week. Do you think the headers will tone down the drone?
If not ive been looking at a full 22" magnaflow catback set up, anyone with this set up that can chime in? I know one mans drone is another mans beauty tune but I would still like some input before I go an spend $800 on a new exhaust set up that may or may not fix my problem.

Stock resonators are still in place, youd think they would help, but I guess they were meant for the stock set up. At what rpm/speed were you getting the drone at?

Just an FYI - I have a 14 inch Heartthrob on mine (since March '13). Zero drone and it still sound badass at the tailpipes. When I bought my truck the previous owner had a 14 inch aftermarket muffler on it and the drone was maddening...just saying.

any drone I had was at highway speeds. it's noticeably less since I took off the resonators.
My thought is that they are just another thing to affect the sound leaving the muffler, not having them frees that up and makes it quieter.

16870 Magnaflow kit on a 4.7 has a very noticable drone on slight uphills under light throttle.

Ran into a guy this morning with a 4" AFE single exhaust system, and it sounded really good, never thought to ask him about drone on the highway, but a big single pipe system might be something to look into

Interesting. I always thought the resonators would help with drone. Like it was mentioned earlier though, I guess they were designed for the stock setup.

I just had the 18" installed over the weekend. I opted to cut out the stock y-pipe and run 2.5" pipes back the muffler. I have a DI/DO setup. I left the back half of the exhaust the same. It drones a little...but not maddening...yet. Sounds great. Not too loud. Deep mellow growl.

I have the 14" magnaflow. It was a little loud until I installed the BBK shorties now its super quiet again. Kinda strange but maybe your JBAs will make it quiet. I mean its almost like stock quiet with the 14"!!

That's very strange that you have drone with a quality muffler and resonators left on.
I'll be interested to hear what happens once you get your shorties.
