Anyone have any experience with Weigh Safe drop hitches?
I'm looking at the WS10-25 10" drop for boat towing.

I don't have one but it's been on my wish list for a while now; I haven't been able to justify the cost when my old drop hitch works fine. But if you don't already have a drop hitch go for it. They get good reviews.

I've got the 10 inch Weight Safe for my 3500. No complaints and love the scale, allows me to properly load my trailer making the tow experience better.

Thanks coobie. I know i will need an extended drop shank for my reese wdh because my ram is so much taller (which i love) than my low rider Silverado was... lol.

I figured they'd be about that much.

That looks to be really nice. It has come up many times on here but I'll weigh in ;). I would consider that weigh safe but I have the shocker hitch which is rated for 12k like it too much to switch although that weigh safe is tempting.

Gents,

There's a thread in the towing section about the hitch sleeve i posted in.

Here's my question. If i go with s 2.5" drop shank, is the vertical part where my wdh hitch head bolts on also 2.5" or is that part 2"?

I think i need to stay with 2" and use the sleeve or I'll have to buy an entire new 2.5" wdh setup.

Anyone know for sure? Thanks

My truck is 6 inches higher than stock, and just having a stock truck I had to go get a shank that dropped quite a bit. Now I got another that drops even more since the lift I tow a Jayco 26bh. In all honesty to me I could actually use another 2 inch drop to make it OCD type perfect. I really like that Weigh Safe hitch however it would not allow me to use my weight distribution bars which really help aid in the tow. I did get a 14 inch drop shank but would have to do some fabrication work to it and since I have a 2 1/2 receiver I want a 2 1/2 shank, I do not like the idea of using a sleeve. It got so frustrating that I tow my trailer just a tint bit high in the front. Anyone have any suggestions to that? During my search for shanks I never came across this Weigh Safe system you have mentioned above so maybe Ive missed more...

I'd get a longer drop shank. You want the trailer level or slightly nose low to minimize sway.

Why would you need to have the weight checked if you are towing a boat? A boat's weight won't change much with each tow so why the need to spend the coin on that hitch?

Cause it's pretty !! I want one !!
could care less about the scale, the hitch assembly"s are made really well and very easy to use - Make sure u get a class 5 so u don't have to share it with family members lol.

The weight scale isn't a requirement really. I swap between summer/winter tires, so I'm more interested in the adjustability of the drop, and the multi ball portion. I tow several trailers as well using different couplers.

Weight Safe builds hitches with and without the scale.

Looked at the site again. The non-scale version also loses the locking pin on the drop head. Add that on as an option and your not far from the scale version price.

I have the 2.5" shank/10" drop w/scale. My truck is a '16 2500 Laramie CCSB stock height with 35's. Great hitch. I've used it with three different car haulers. Two positions up from the bottom has been the best for a level tow on all three. I get more questions and comments on that hitch than anything else on my truck!

On order. Ordered the 1-7/8 ball as well seeing the utility trailer uses one.

Hello BossHogg,

I’ve been looking at these for my 3500...how did you determine that the 10” drop version was the right one for you? I am about to purchase a new boat but don’t have a measurement for the trailer receiver height to go by. Boat is pretty light (boat and trailer will be less than 6000lb). Truck is not lifted.

Thanks in advance

Those are on the short list I'm looking at as well. Old B&W hitch went with the old truck since I don't think it would've dropped low enough.

I think I measured about 6" drop for my truck to tow my single axle 6'x12' enclosed cargo trailer. I'll have to see if they make an 8" one of these that I could bump up to 6" if I don't need the extra length, just in case. I don't think I'd need the 10" for mostly stock.
