Duane, you might mention to the truck's owner that folks often weld the flip kit spring pads to the axle to keep them from rotating.

Looks awesome Duane! Great job!

Haha I was just gonna say that! Might wanna wait till he cuts the frame though, since they'll prolly be welding anyway.

Yeah but talk to Moes, he has a pic of a guy that had the McGaughy's flip kit installed without welding the spring perch, and the aftermath of a couple burnouts. It's not pretty! I recommend welding them!

Not really neccessary with the McGaughys kit, as their rocker extends up into the old leaf spring perch.

The OEM perch was designed to hold while being clamped to the spring, and as you mentioned, when flipped the new perch is now mounted under the unsupported OEM perch and has the protential to allow the axle to spin. It works great to get the pinion angle correct, but is not as strong as it should be. Most of us have the new perch spot welded to the axle to play it safe. Individual call....

Duane, I would definitely encourage him to have it done. Actually if presented with an opportunity to spot weld it without incurring a lot of additional cost I would go ahead and get it done. The liability and embarrassment of having it come back on “your” install wouldn’t be worth it to me personally.

Will third the idea of atleast a good spot weld. There have been a few pics floating around the forums over the years of guys punching it and the axel twist and wreck about everything under the bed.

It was recommended to him. It will be up to him if he does it or not. It has a very anemic 4,7L in it right now though, and I told him to be very gentle with it for now, not to go over 55, and not hit any bumps hard, as we still have to align it, put the c-notch in it, and check everything over again. I always try to get them to bring the vehicle back after it has a couple hundred miles on it to check the suspension fasteners, as driving them sometimes makes them settle different than when they were installed, and I want to make sure it is completely safe. I will probably just have the guy that is cutting the c-notch throw a bead on the perchs too.
