Today was the first and hopefully last issue with the electronic shifter.
2023 new body V8 eTorque 4x4
28* outside and snowing
Went for a drive today and pulled into a parking lot to get something out of the back seat. Shifted to park, opened the drivers door and started to get out and the truck shut off. Thought I turned it off out of habit and when I tried to restart the EVIC displayed the error “apply emergency brake to prevent rolling”, the electronic shifter was flashing in park and the ignition was in accessory mode. I couldn’t turn the truck off. When restarting the truck the truck would die as soon as I let off the brake regardless of what gear was selected. The truck did not roll and appeared to be in park.
Well %$&@….. the shifter and transmission couldn’t agree on which gear, or lack of gear, the transmission was in. All my tools are at home and I’m stuck in a parking lot. All businesses were closed as everyone freaks out when it snows in North Texas.
I shifted to what the shifter thought was neutral and let it sit for a bit. 5 minutes later it started up like nothing ever happened and ran fine the rest of the day. I’ll bring it up with the dealer next week but what a shot to the confidence in this setup.
Has anyone experienced this? Any issues to report after the fact?
I miss the physical linkages of days gone by…
