I have a 2020 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi with less than 6k miles and my check engine light came on last Sunday, of course I was getting ready to go back out on the road in the rig so I was unable to get my truck to the dealer but I have a scheduled service this Saturday for an oil change and to have that light looked at!

Has anyone ever had an issue with the engine light coming on with such low miles with a 6.4 Hemi? I did take a rag and wipe out the area where the fuel nozzle goes as well as the gas cap and re-tightened it but to no avail, the light won't go out! So far no performances issues have been noticed!

Any ideas as to what might be going on and what I could suggest when I get the truck in this Saturday! fd7417cead411b3d3c02444861958a34.jpg

It could be one of more than a hundred things that caused the code so it's hard to pin down just what exactly is going wrong. We'd need the code information to help diagnose the issue.

Have you gotten the codes read? Some auto parts stores will read the codes for no charge.

My 2014 6.4L threw some codes at less than 3K miles for excessive knock. It was piston slap caused by undersized piston wrist pins. Not to worry you but they ended up replacing the engine.

Maddog, I have not had any codes read yet! I have an appointment for tomorrow morning at the dealer of purchase for its first oil change and to have that looked at! I am hoping it is a simple fix and not a complete replacement of the engine which would be a sad day and the fact I'll get major grief from my neighbors since 2 of them are hardcore chevy guys! I'll update when I find out!

I doubt you'll have to have the engine replaced.

Mine had a manufacturing defect (undersized piston wrist pins) that was quickly corrected by FCA at the sourcing end. I think they have that all figured out at this point.

That poor truck...it had a short, and rough, life in the two short years I owned it. A few TSB's, a new engine and then total destruction occurred... <sigh>

What caused the total destruction? I’m on my second TSB but have managed to avoid any power train issues thus far.

The engine light went out yesterday evening while on my way to my parents house for dinner on New Years day! Today the dealer said it was a (P0300) Multiple Cylinder Misfire DTC which could have been from not letting the fuel system prime up completely by pressing on the brake pedal and pushing the start/stop button instead of turning the ignition on and waiting! The day it happened we were experiencing sub-zero temps and that may have been what caused it to misfire!

Maddog, I mentioned what you had experienced with your 6.4 to the service manager and he said they had a few of those trucks but it was vin specific and that the factory had that taken care of quickly, he also recommended oil service intervals between 7-8k miles which I thought I could have been over on but fortunately I wasn't, although my **** retentive backside will be having the oil services done around the 4500-5000k mark just to be safe!

Sandevino LOL...they'll never know since I didn't have to have a loaner vehicle!
