Guys,

My 2015 v8 5.4 Hemi 1500 RAM is due for oil change. Usually i take to the dealer and he changes and i pay. Thought of saving some money and buy the oil and ask them to only change (without using their oil)...just wondering which engine oil type should i use? 5W-20 (OR) 5W-30? Any recommendations? Am in Calgary with frequent travel to Mountains.

Thanks,
OS

5w20 synthetic, Mopar filter (best for the money). 7 quarts. Ram doesn't require full syn, but your hemi will thank you for it.

Full syn has a lot of differences, actually. Most notably in your case is it handles temperature and heat cycling much better. Secondly it isn't contaminated as easily which means slower wear on things like lifters, MDS solenoids, oil control valves, etc. I'm no expert when it comes to oil, just been in the automotive industry for too long and I've been around enough experts to pick up a few key points. I've also been around enough 5.7's to know they (like most modern engines) LOVE good quality oil.

I would see what they will charge you to change the oil you brought in. You may not save much if any money. They may charge more for labor and some places wont use the parts you supply. We wouldnt do it at the shop I used to work at. It's like bringing your own burgers to mcdonalds.
