Engine swap! Yay Or Nay?

Hello, I am new member to this group and I was wondering a few questions about my 99 ram 1500 4x4, the 5.2 in it currently has 253,800 miles and is tired as heck, my buddy has a 5.9 block from a 1996 ram, the question is will the 5.9 work in my 99. He says its OBD2 but I am not quite sure when they came out with OBD2. If it does work, I plan on beefing up the 5.9 and make my truck a street/strip truck. Thankyou for everyone who replies, have tried asking on other forums and nothing.

The 1996 is an obd2 truck but it's programmed differently than the 99. If you used that motor you may have to use that ecm, the wiring harnesses should be the same though.

Just swap the complete intake and you're good.
