Ever wonder what the inside of the 7" EVIC (cluster) looks like?

The "repair" was $300 and you loose backlight control. For an extra $200 you can get a used cluster from a wrecking yard and have backlight control. I would probably go the used cluster route.

Sort of in this vein, has anyone replaced the 3 1/2 EVIC with the 7" one? any idea of what it takes?

Yes you can. It's been done for years with the 13+ trucks. Even with the early 4th gens. Early 4th gens have to have the clusters sent out to have the mileage changed, whereas the 13+ can be changed with alfaobd.

Some notes, 2013 truck's need a 2013 cluster for the tpms to read, 14+ are interchangeable. I believe starting in 16 the clusters have the start up splash screen. Junk yards are the only place you can get them, maybe some 3rd party resellers may sell them but they'll be overpriced refurbished one's

Excuse me, a bit ignorant here, is the '16 backwards compatible with a '14? Besides that, so I could get a 7" cluster from '14+ and it would be a straight swap, no change to wiring harness or anything? Plenty of scrapyards here so getting a cluster is fairly easy but I want to make sure if I find a truck and I call for the cluster I will know anything more I need as well. Thank you for your patience.

Yes 14-18 are interchangeable, all plug and play regardless if your truck came with the 3.5 or 7" evic. Only "issue" would be if you have the basic basic radio. You'd loose access to some features that are only accessible through the 5.0 or 8.4 radio's.

2013 uses a different frequency for the tpms which is incorporated into the evic. So 2013 can only use a 2013 evic if you wanted to retain the tpms function.

Extra $200!!! The salvage yard price has been a pretty steady $165ish (but no guarantees on lense conditions and you still have to correct mileage).

You can add those settings to the cluster, but it must be a 2014+ cluster (2013 won't display them for some reason).

In addition, you can use a 2013 cluster in a 2014 truck with everything working and the bonus is that you won't get any of the annoying light out messages when you switch to LED bulbs.
