I did the evic upgrade on my 2011 ram including the 3-wire mod. I spliced the two wires behind the cluster and cut and wired the the 3 wires on the connector to the clockspring. The steering wheel has up/down switches on the left and right/left buttons on the right. It does not have radio buttons. I get 7-8V on the LIN bus and 12V on the fused b+. Unfortunately, the evic buttons on the steering wheel and the horn do not work. The steering wheel buttons illuminate with the headlights on. I can't scroll the menu. I have read so many threads on forums and can't seem to get a straight answer. Do you have to get programming done to get your horn and evic switches to work?
Thanks.

Well, I solved my issue. It turns out the evic was from a 2012 and I have a 2011 steering wheel. I put a 2011 evic in and the horn and steering wheel evic switches starting working. So I can confirm no programming is needed for normal evic operation.

Can you please explain how you did the wiring? I'm not exactly sure what to do. When talking splice behind the cluster are you cutykng the wires abd connecting the new ones? Or are you just adding the new wires while keeping the old one in place? I hope that makes sense.

How does the 3 wire splice work?
From all the forums I've read it's still co confusing. Can you please explain it where even a dummy can fully understand it?
Some say you splice them. Some say you cut them.

Please explain the 3 wire mod. Do you splice them? Do you cut it?

Cut all three at the clock spring. Splice or tap into the 2 at the back of the EVIC.

The two from the EVIC go to the wires you cut at the clock spring going into the steering wheel. The ground goes from the clock spring to a good metal ground.
