Hey guys long time reader first time poster...

Here is my question....I'm looking to get a little more sound out of my truck (2014 Black Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi) than just the stock muffler...only thing done to the truck is CAI right now, thinking I just want to replace the stock muffler not go with a full catback or anything like that. I've spent a little (admittedly not much) time listening to a few clips online from flow master and magnaflow and I'm not sure if it was just me but everything sounds so much alike it's hard to distinguish between some of them. My main issue is this: I leave my house for work in the morning around 6:30 or so, my wife, 5 year old and 18 month old are still sound asleep. I want something that's going to be a little more aggressive sounding and a bit louder, but hope to not wake the family when I start my truck and back out of my garage.

I called a few local muffler shops today and the only real opinion I got from anyone was to go with the flowmaster 40 series. Unfortunately there aren't many options for performance shops in the Omaha Nebraska area...only diesel stuff..

Anything you guys have to add would help!

Thanks guys!!

My Ram is similar to yours (Quad Cab, not sure what yours is) and just upgraded my exhaust to the MF 16869 Cat-Back. Love it. It has a deeper growl but definitely is a little louder than stock... but not LOUD if that makes sense... No drone whatsoever. Very pleased with the purchase.

A 40series flow master will be on the loud side. If your just wanting alittle more sound. Look at the 18-24" Magnaflows or the 70series flow masters.

This may be a stupid question but on the flowmaster 50 HD direct fit....does it mean just that "direct fit" or will someone at the shop still have to fabricate something or add some pipe in to connect it to the existing pipes that are there? When I called the shop they wanted to look at my truck to see what they're up against as far as having to possibly fabricate something to make it fit since the stock muffler is so big.

The main complaints with Flowmaster is having to deal with the drone inside the cab. MagnaFlow doesn't produce the drone that Flowmaster has.
I wanted the same thing as you. Ended up going with the 18" MagnaFlow and absolutely love it! Under load, it has an awesome sound. Under normal driving, it's still nice and quiet in the cab. I think you'll be pleased with it.

The Mufflex stuff is well made and pretty easy to install, I put a DODM80 on last night and it took about an hr, the biggest pain was getting the rusted old clamps off, putting the new stuff on was easy. Their M80 is probably a little load for what you want but I'm sure there other models are also built well.

It is a direct fit, you don't need anything else. You can put it on in a hour. Don't believe all the drone ******** you hear from people that don't even have this muffler. You can hear it from the cab, and more so if your lugging the motor. Give it some more gas.

I agree on the Magnaflow. I have the catback,16869. Put on last summer. Cant beat the fit and finish, the tips look awesome, sound is perfect for what I wanted and engine response feels a lot better. Only other mod is a Mopar intake. Like the other post described, the sound on this system is a perfect balance and has 0 drone. If you want to sound like a monster truck, its not for you. But if you want a nice rumble at idle and a loud pissed hemi at wot with a great balance of those two in between, With ZERO DRONE, this is a great system. Having no drone was big for me and for RAMs i read this system is one of the best in that area. It took mine about a thousand miles to really break in the idle sound. Ive had a handful of strangers compliment the sound. I have swapped mufflers in a couple other vehicles ive owned but this time i wanted to go all the way and get a full catback. Worth it IMO.

I absolutely love my 14 series MagnaFlow catback exhaust, I have gone with Flowmaster in the past and I did enjoy that sound as well ie; 10 series (not my favourite) and 40 series which was fine. There's just something about the MagnaFlow that keeps me coming back. Good luck with your search.

I would go with the 18" Mufflex kit. It is a direct bolt on, has just enough sound to be heard, but not loud enough to be obnoxious...just an all around good balance of sound and comfort.

First of all I'd like to thank all of you for your input on this. I've listened to a ton of video clips lately.

I decided to go with the Magnaflow 14" I happened to know a guy who knows a guy who stocked them at his shop and did it for me on the cheap. So far I've only driven it back to work but so far I have exactly what I wanted out of it.

Now I just might have to go back and get those black stainless steel 3" tips put on to get the rest of the chrome taken off of my all blacked out truck :favorites13:

Thanks again boys!
