So, I had my exhaust manifolds leak for the first time about three years ago. Bolts were broken and manifolds were warped. I had new Dorman manifold kits put on. I kept the OEM manifolds in case they leaked again and I may want to plane them and have them put on. Well, they did leak again so I had the OEMs planed at a machine shop and had them put on with new gaskets and bolts. This was last year and they are leaking again. They say planed manifolds don't warp again but either I just have broken bolts or have broken bolts and planed manifolds that are warped again. I haven't dug into it yet. What does everyone think i'll find? Will the planed manifolds be warped again? Also, I can tell you that what causes these problems for me is towing a camper. My exhaust leaks always start during camper towing season. Working the engine harder which I am sure creates more heat must be what causes this.

Towing your camper is not the cause of the failure. Dorman manifolds are plain junk im now replacing mine for the 3rd time in 3 years and the first 2 times i used dorman, this time the BD diesel is going on. My dorman are actually breaking in 2 when they let go and i can hear the leak starting within 2 months of the job. I would bet if the bolts snapped then something has warmed again to cause enough stress.

Planing them flat at a machine shop you may want to check the price first. My local shop is $180 a hour and would have been almost 2 hours to do the job. Some areas may be better off as the local shop may do this on a regular basis and already have things set up for this.

Yours is the 1st case I've read of re-machined stock manifolds leaking.

How many miles? They may not have completed their final thermal cycling set point - i.e. - you might have machined them too soon?

The BD Diesel manifolds only fit the 5.7, not the 6.4, so I didn't try them. I planed mine flat last year @ 60,000 miles, and tow occasionally. So far, they're still dead quiet.

What gaskets did you use? If you didn't use Remflex 6022 gaskets, you might want to replace the gaskets and use new bolts.

Goox afternoon All, you may see this question in multiple manifold threads.
I am looking for recommendations on which brand of hardware to use when I repair the manifolds.
I want to replace all the bolts, studs & nuts.

It turns out that they are not leaking. There was a crack or leak down underneath. I had my trans fluid changed the mechanic saw the leak or crack and welded it up for me. Thanks

I had the oem manifolds planed not the Dormans. They charged me $90. Also, it turns out that they are not leaking again after all. My mechanic found a leak or crack in the pipe down underneath and welded it up. I don't know exactly where this was but he said it's common on Ram hemis.

I second that, they shouldn’t warp again if you’ve been driving it like that for a few months. After removing both manifolds from my 5.7 and rubbing out +.050” of rock in em I haven’t had any issues. I didn’t have access to a mill to fly cut them at the time so I did it against my belt sander, being careful to apply even pressure. I couldn’t slip more than a .003” shim between the manifolds and my granite counter top so I called it done. With all the heat cycles or annealing they’ve been through I imagine any internal stress has been relieved from the material, and after two years I haven’t had any issues
I re-read your post. Then it clicked, you said "against your belt sander" meaning not a handheld type but a table top type?
