So I woke up this morning to discover the shop my truck was in last night had a fire. The truck is undamaged but the windows were open and it smells very strongly of smoke. Everything has a film of ash on it as well.

Anyone have any experiences? Is insurance gonna spot me a new interior?

Smoke smell is hard to get rid of, but after a house fire years ago, we used three Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifiers to get rid of the smell from clothing. Took about 2 days. They dont make those any more but there are other brands of Ionic or Negative Ion air purifiers that will work. Or you can hope they total the turck as fire damaged.

Depends on if there was wire burnt in the fire, that smell is one smell that I think it the hardest smell to get rid of, now if it was 8+ hours of smoke from your meat smoker that smell only last a few days...

I know there are professionals that specialize in getting rid of smoke damage. I would try them. Turn bill over to your or the shops insurance. If not I would try putting baking soda every were.

have it towed to the dealer ship call insurance company !
depending on the year and severity of the fire and proximity of your truck you may probably will get new cloth interior components and truck gone over for further fire damage OR they just might total the truck !!
That's been my experience when i was in the Dealership auto body shop and Mechanical side!

I agree with the others that it depends what was burned. That chemical-like plastic smell from wiring can be tough to get out. Just some wood and building materials? Could come out fairly easy. Either way it's probably going to be an insurance thing and you'll just have to wait and see what they can do.

Of course, it could be worse :)

Weren't you trying to get a new interior with a different color stitching in a prior thread?

Seems awfully convenient that now your interior is damaged.

Hope you have a good alibi...

You’re not the first person to point that out.
