First off good evening.
This is my first post but been here for awhile reading threads.
So here we go. About two weeks ago the wife and I were looking to replace our tires on our 2013 Ram 1500 as they were getting down to 4/32th. The wheel setup we had were LT285/75r18 on 18x9. The tire we had were Toyo's Open Country AT2 Xtremes. Which I believe are the best AT tire on the market and this is our third set in different sizes. We go camping, wood hauling, occasional towing and try to do light off roading as much as I can. We were set to get another set of AT2s but we couldn't pull the trigger as these tires were crazy expensive and I wasn't looking to spend $1450 for just tires at our local Discount tires.
So we decided to look at other tires. We decided anything from AT to Hybrid tire would fit the bill if we could stay under $1400. I started to shop around locally and found one shop that gets Cooper tires directly. The deal was real good being under $1300 for a set of LT295/70r18 Cooper ST MAXX.
The day before we were going to get our truck tires we went to our original tire shop(Tire Pros) to get our car tires rotated. I thought since we are here maybe they can price match the offer we got from other shop. Showed them the quote and they matched it but tires would be 3 days out. They showed us the Hercules T/G Max in LT305/70r18 which they had in stock and told us they would fit and price came out lower then the Cooper. The wife love the look of the tire and we bought them the next day.
Personally I like the look of the Coopers better but this is her truck and she likes the look of the Hercules better haha. After about two weeks on the truck the look is starting to grow on me.
They ride real smooth and quiet up about 50 mph. After it starts to get a little louder but can't tell when the radio is on. These T/G MAX do not dig you into a hole and want to keep moving forward. They do great in soft sand, hard pack dirt and gravel roads. They a little taller and wider then the Toyos I replaced. But can feel a small vibration in the steering wheel so I thought maybe give it 2 weeks and let the tires break in. Nothing changed so I called Tire Pros this afternoon and they told me bring the truck back in and they'll rebalance. This why I love this them and been a customer for 4 years now.
Well update after the tires have been rebalance.
