First oil change lessons learned

Don't trust the dealer or oil change places. I always change my own. Its pretty easy to do.

Yep, easy to do and you don't get burned if you don't heat it up. If you're worried about sludge then I'd suggest you change what type of oil you're putting in your engine... Just a thought :naughty:

Its not hard. My ferd ranger was hard. The filter was up against the motor and frame rail. It was almost impossible to get a strap wrench on it and get only about quarter turn out of it.

My suggestion for the oil filter is to come at it from the front of the truck. I have changed oil in many vehicles, but this one took me a bit before the "Ah-Ha" light turned on. If you go at it from in front of the front axle it seems to make it easier/possible.

Maybe you guys were already doing that, but I was frustrated for a bit.

I have a 2013 5.7L Express. Hope that helps.
