After that actor was crushed by a Dodge, Ram or whatever he owned, you can bet there will be no way to disable it. You can't fix stupid so FCA will make sure that type occurrance won't happen. If you were able to disable it and then did something stupid and got dead, you can bet your estate would find an attorney and sue FCA millions because they allowed you to defeat the safety feature.

I guess Jimmy has found a way to disable it... ...for now. I'm sure the FCA employees that follow this site will pass jimmy07's findings along to the proper people.

I find it irritating when Im hooking up the trailer and if the door is shut but not completely latched to the 2nd latch it slams on the brakes when you try to move the truck. Its a pain to make sure it is completely latched and slams the brakes. Next you will need to hook your belt to move it.

I also have auto-park problems. I too hate that it autoparks when I open my door. Sometimes I want to back in along a driver-side curb and I want to watch my tire to ensure I get very close without scuffing it. It should be my option if I want the truck in park! Another problem: If I pull forward to back into a space in a very busy lot that I frequent, if I misjudge and have to pull forward again, it auto-parks if I don't make a long pause before shifting and won't come out unless I shut the truck off, wait a few seconds, then restart. Extremely frustrating when I'm holding up traffic! I believe earlier models had a screen option to turn this feature off (saw demo on YouTube). I read a thread recently that said there was a recall for this (software update) but haven't received a notice and the service rep at my dealer hadn't heard of it. I scheduled an appointment have it fixed (or maybe they have a way to turn the feature off).

I work for a paving company MANY times I need to measure a section of roadway maybe several thousand feet long I hold my measuring wheel in my left hand, hold the door open a bit with my left foot and drive on down the road, couldn't do that with the door closed.

I have been using a seat belt extender on my last 2 Rams. I use it to shut the seat belt buzzer off but I still buckle up when on the road.

The more I read posts like these about the auto park and the “need” to disable, the more curious I get, so now I’ve got to comment on it. I’ve been driving for 25 years now, and I’ve driven all kinds of cars and trucks, and have backed up all different kinds of trailers in the tightest of spots. We’ve got rear view mirrors, adjustable passenger and driver side mirrors, driver side windows that can be rolled down to stick your head out of, backup cameras, front park sensors, and rear park sensors. I have NEVER come across a situation where I had to open the door while the vehicle was moving! Now, reading all these posts about people ******** about the auto park, I can’t come up with one situation, but I can’t even fathom that this is a common occurrence. So, what are some of these instances that people are moving around with their driver door open?

Amen, Bro! Me too.

well I for one am damn glad that my "15" doesn't have the auto park,
last week I had the tires blocked, the trans in reverse and forward while checking the backup lights;
routinely I will leave my door open when hooking up to farm wagons,
also when I pull up to a gate I'll leave the door open, open the gate, jump in the seat
drive the truck into the pasture and jump out to get to the gate before the cows can,
having to fully close and open the door takes to long, often just shove the parking brake and be stepping out before its even stopped.
Checking seedling growth idling along while straddling rows with the door open to view the sprouting.
Elecric sprayer in the bed spray nozzle in my hand, spraying along a fence row and posts without getting over spray.
So yes there are times to drive with the door open

It was Anton Yelchin, known best (typically) for his role as Pavel Chekov in the newer Star Trek movies. He drove a 2015 Grand Cherokee, which is what pinned him and ultimately killed him.

Every vehicle from ever manufacturer will continue to receive more and more "nanny" technology. Rear view cameras are now required, I believe, on most new cars. I haven't kept up on it, but congress was looking at making automatic braking a Federally mandated requirement as well. As others stated here, there are some idiots out there that must be protected from themselves, so everyone must suffer. Not saying Anton was an idiot, he may have simply made a bad mistake, but there are definitely a lot of idiots on the road.

I had to think about,,, when do I need to back up with the door open; Backing down a boat ramp. Launching or picking up. The back up camera and tow mirrors clearly helpful. But some of our launch ramps have high angle ramps. Others low water line and very narrow. Opening the door to see the trailer depth, exhaust pipe and making sure you don't get into the mud, may be a old school habit. Going up next week. Going to challenge my self to only us the equipment.

Do you guys not know that you can set your mirrors to tilt down when in reverse, which makes seeing a curb or how close you are to something very, very easy.

Or we can just open our doors. Seems easier than adjusting mirrors

I think he was pointing out that there is a setting that will automatically tilt your mirrors down when in reverse. I turned it off because I didn’t care for it and with surround view you can see the lines or curbs on the screen already.

Found one thing finally I don’t like about this truck. You can’t have the door open and move i. It puts the darn parking break on and everything. It is so annoying. I think it is the same if your hood is opened. I need to find a way to disable that.
Backing into my garage just now...I have a tight fit and left my tool chest drawer open. Put the truck in park to get out. Got out. Closed tool chest. Got back in truck and left the door open (engine running this whole time). Put it in reverse like it's nobody's damn business and backed right up with the door wide open and my seat belt unbuckled. Boom.

I thought I beat the system too. Try putting it in drive. [emoji3]

Mine is a 2012 Laramie, & I have towing mirrors (but don't think that makes a difference).

Should be in system setup, right along with the comfort settings, easy exit seat, beep horn with lock, etc.........
