I generally check tire pressures frequently, and I've usually been more frustrated by the need for two sets of TPMS sensors when I run Winter / Summer tires - and how the vehicle electronics don't play nice when the sensor's don't work right.

BUT yesterday I was very grateful to have TPMS on my 2018 RAM. I was on my way to a meeting in early evening when the "bong" sounded. I had tire pressures of 41/41/40/29 - the RF was low, and all the tires had been at 41 or 40 earlier in the day.

It saved the tire - patched now. Even though they are only SRA's

my ford transit work van has a sensors. came back from vakay and someone else had been driving and claimed the light had just come on when she got back. hmmmm..pressure was supposed to be 48. it was at 21! pumped up and had to leave overnight to get fixed and it looked ok the next morning, started it up, no sensor on. then as an afterthought i decided to check it anyway as the compressor and hose is right there at the shop. lost 15 lb overnight. no sensor. first day i could tell it was low looking at it. second day, could not. fricking things.

I whine about it a lot, especially when it gets cold up here in the mountains, but I will admit that it has forced me to pay closer attention to the damned tires. :/

(Still want to dump these stock Goodyears and get tires that won't drop from 41 -> 28 lbs just because of a cold-snap.)

Let me know when you find tires that the cold doesn't affect tire pressure ! Though 13 pound loss is pretty significant.

To be fair, I only drive the critter once every couple of days, so it's not exactly overnight, but...

Fill your tires with nitrogen.

Just another way to to separate fools from their $$$. How will you know if there is really nitrogen in your tires?
Are Nitrogen-filled Tires Worth the Cost?
The main benefit of nitrogen-filled tires is that the loss of tire pressure is slower, because the gas in the tire escapes more slowly than air does. With more stable tire pressure, the thinking goes, you’ll get better gas mileage and get full tire life since you’re always rolling on fully inflated tires.

Claims are also made that nitrogen in tires prevents tire “rot” by limiting the moisture that naturally occurs inside tires and heads off corrosion of the wheel that can be caused by contact with moisture.

These claims are overstated. The advantages of tires filled with nitrogen, instead of plain ol’ air, aren’t big enough to justify the price tag or the inconvenience. On new car tires, the cost can range from $70 to as much as $179. On existing tires, you’ll pay up to $30 per tire for service to drain air and refill with N2. Refills will run you $5 to $7 per tire, which you can expect to do less often than with air-filled tires. But you’ll still need topping off every two or three months.

Isn’t that what we do is buy into the idea that something claims it does awesome things for our trucks and ultimately only performs at a small fraction of what is claims even though it costs 4x more than it should have even if it did perform as advertised...

Please catch my sarcasm

It’s one of those things you don’t really notice it until something like that happens. My little commuter I bought years ago got flat more frequently than oil changes [emoji2369]. Wish I had it then.

I keep an eye on them once in a while. I’m terrible for checking tire pressure..... I pretty much always do a visual before I get in it’s sort of routine plus I love looking at my truck lol. But I should check it more often. Proper tire pressure means less gas and less gas means more polar bears ?

I better start burning more gas. Polar bears are dangerous.

I like the tpms. I've had slow leaks in areas where it's not real safe to pull over and the tpms lets me know how much time I have before I have to pull over. I do have a gremlin on the back left like @ThunderMug95 and if it goes away when I swap to my winters with different sensors I'll get that one changed.
