There are plenty of things Ford does that make me roll my eyes, especially when it comes to product reveals. Why no power numbers? Wtf. But I give them full credit for having the guts to release this engine. Especially because now it will make Ram move their ball forward and give us better product. Whether that be big power bump on the 6.4 or a new HD 426, we’ll see. I say bump up the 6.4 in power for the next couple of years (its plenty capable of safely putting out more power) and then give us an HD 426.

I think anything less than 500 lb ft out of the Ford 7.3 would be a big disappointment.

I honestly feel the 6.4L is a great platform!
Just tweak the HP/TQ along with totally reworking the weak MDS system!

Get a much stronger (better geared) Transmission along with much lower Gearing within the front/rear end.

They have a great platform to work with just fine tune it!

Once Again: Just my Opinion!

I wonder what kind of mileage that 7.3L is going to get? Also kudos to them for the 10 speed. I would have to drive one before I could cast my vote. I too watched the video last night on TFL at like midnight lol.

Fuel economy will be interesting. The 10 speed will help, but except for a few cosmetics like the grill the exterior of the truck is identical to the 2017-2019 model. Ram claims the 2019 HDs are now the most aerodynamic HD truck on the market.

Got my attention.
Love the part where the guy says smaller engines, boosted engines, all that is fine for running light.

Kinda slams the door on the V-6 Turbo F-150's.

Well I certainly hope it does better than the existing 6.2L gas engine. I had a 2015 F250 SD with the 6.2, it was an absolute dog. The torque management was horrible. It had a terrible dead pedal problem, step on the accelerator hard and it would fall over like it had to think for two seconds about what to do. Almost got me in an accident several times. On top of that it rode like holy hell, finally my wife told me to get rid of it after less than a year, and get another Ram- and my wife never tells me to spend $50K LOL !

I don’t understand the logic in people making an issue out of gas mileage with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. That’s like buying an economy car and making an issue out of performance

Chevy is getting a new 6.6 gasser too and I know a 10 speed in the Diesel’s, I’m not sure on the gas motors though.

Cause I want my Dam Cake and Ice cream to-

Just wish I could get it in a glass motor like they do with the diesels, but with a 8 speed it may be easier to accomplish now.

Ford builds good stuff. No question. Competition is a good thing. Kudos to Ford for building another big, pushrod gasser. After Ford went to the modular v8s I lost interest. I still feel the roller cam 302 (5.0/HO) is a dang good engine

Because pulling my trailer every day for work getting 9.5 or 10 miles per a gallon costs a hell of a lot more than if it got 12 to 15 mpg. I dont know why we would just roll over and accept crappy mileage because it's a bigger truck. I gotta have a 2500 for my line of work and i get tired of the gas pumps.

Its about time GM got in the game. The 6.0 was always a gutless wonder.

True. Dead nuts reliable, but no competition for our mighty 6.4s.

Here's to hoping mopar will release a 426 hemi (7.0 L) That would be totally bad A**
What a tribute to the past it`d be as well.

I laughed at the Ford engineers explanation of why they choose 7.3L. That's a joke. It's because everyone knows what a hoss the 7.3 powerstroke was. Ford (IH) best diesel engine.

It gives it instant interest and people relate to that. Just as if mopar does release a 7.0 L. Guarantee if they build it there will be commercials with a throwback to the original 426 hemi. They'd be foolish not to, but it'd better run and due proper respect to the original 426.

It sure won't be by accident or due to some coincidental performance goal that was set. Just my .02

The 6.4 is a beast and a good platform to work with. I can imagine just pairing it with the 8 speed already helped immensely to put the power down. But in the next year or two they’ll have to do something to respond to the numbers on paper. They take that game seriously. There’s no way I see that team at Mopar letting Ford and Chevy put them in third place on power numbers. The question becomes will they get the power they need out of the 6.4 or will they introduce the 426.

I still feel like we will see 426 Hemi showing up in various versions for Ram and Dodge. Why would they have invested the time and money building the Hellephant.

6.4 could stay the base power plant (as Ford left the 6.2 as base) and 426/7.0 as an upgraded gasser option with torque number of at least 525 would make sense to me. The NA Gen III 426 they built some years ago conservatively made just under 600 lb-ft if I remember correctly.

That's why they have Diesels.

Bottom Line, a Football Lineman, Body Builder, Wrestler, Weight Lifter eats more than a Computer Geek, Office Clerk or Marathoner.
Brute Force is rarely Svelte &/or Efficient.

Bring back the V-10?

My V-10 got 9mpg, empty. That was according to the EVIC.
Did an actual hand calculation, once and only once.
Decided I liked the Dash Fuel Economy numbers much better.

Pulling any weight, whatsoever, I got 6mpg, again via EVIC.
I flat out did not want to know the Real MPG numbers.

Don't get me wrong, I loved that truck and drive train.
Drove it for 15 years, mostly Interstate and Empty
but when I needed the Pulling Power, I had plenty.
