I bought a 128GB SD card to play music in my truck, only to find out that it was formatted as EXFAT instead of FAT32. Our trucks will only read drives formatted as FAT32, which is dated and ridiculous but whatever. Unfortunately, Microsoft Windows will only let you configure large drives as EXFAT or NTFS. I tried several different formatting programs that people recommended, that took hours and still didn't do what I needed. Eventually I found this link and it took about 15 seconds to convert my SD card to FAT32: Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd

Hopefully it's kosher to post links like this, but this thing worked like a charm. Now I've got all of my music working in the truck. Good luck.

I don't believe that to be true. My SD card is formatted in NTFS which is the latest file system and my 2014 reads it just fine. FAT32 is from the mid ninety's man so I would hope they are not that far behind at Chrysler lol

Interestingly enough, I just purchased a Kenwood eXcelon X-799, which was released this year, for my Silverado and it can only read FAT32 through its USB interface... LOL

What radio system are you running and how big is your SD card?

I looked at a few places and Amazon had a great price - about $50 for 128GB. My 8.4A system is a little slow sometimes at processing everything when I try to browse for music through playlists, artist names, etc. However, it plays flawlessly.

Right now I've got a little over 10,000 songs on there and will put the rest on soon.

Same setup as me, but yours worked with NTFS. Awesome. Mine wouldn't no matter what I did, so I read posts on here and elsewhere saying that the system wouldn't work with NTFS on drives over 32GB.

Hopefully I am wrong but thought that I'd offer an alternative to folks like me that ran into problems. Ironically, the dealership just put a new 8.4A radio in my truck so maybe it was having more issues than just the 911 button error.

Well, I do notice that the radio takes some time to initialize the SD card, maybe 30 seconds or so. Might be a symptom of compatibility but it is formatted in NTFS for sure. On another note, any windows based PC can format the SD card to FAT32, no need for a special converter or software.

My Windows PC can only format FAT32 up to a certain amount. I want to say it was around 30GB. I had to format a 60gb external hard drive in FAT32 a couple of years ago, and I had to create partitions on the hard drive to make it work.

I didn't have to pay anything, but I did have to download software to create the partitions.

Ahh yes.... that is correct. 32gb is max for FAT32 but there are ways around that limitation within Windows. I forget not everyone is computer savvy enough to figure out that stuff but I think the real point being that FAT32 is a 1996 tech and in 2015 Chrysler (and Kenwood) have SD/USB readers that are not NTFS compliant.
