Guys – First I want to say thanks for all the future help. I have a two week old 2013 Ram Sport Crew Cab 5.7, 3.55 and this site has been a wealth of info. I’ve done some searching as well as browsing and I’ve come to learn a lot about my truck. I have a friend that has been a Ram guy most of his life and I bet he could stand to learn a thing or two from here. I have a question about my UConnect that I was hoping someone could help me with.

I dropped my truck off at the dealer this morning to have the parking brake adjusted – he had no clue there was a service bulletin out for it and while it was there, I asked if he could look at my Uconnect head unit. I tried to articulate it as best as I could and he made notes but I get the feeling he didn’t quite understand all I was stating. These are the issues I’m having:

1. There are settings for when you lock the truck, sound the horn, etc available on the headunit (8.4AN). Well, when I was playing around, I noticed that the headlights don’t flash when I lock the doors when I have this setting enabled. I thought that was odd.

2. I have the navigation set to display the turn directions on the dash and on mine, it will only happen every other trip which is very odd. I thought I needed to have the dash console set to display current speed (I normally have it show temp summary) but either way, half the time it won’t display the turn. I think that is a nice feature since I’m not always looking at the map on the headunit.

3. The SD card slot won’t recognize cards. I know they need to be formatted for FAT32 and some of the larger ones are not supported but I popped in a 1GB card just to see how it worked and nothing. I know these are small things but I wasn’t sure if they were indicative of something larger going on with the system and since the truck is under warranty, no sense in not having the dealer take a look.

4. I normally go with an ipod and I notice that it will take almost 30 seconds for the music to start playing after I start the truck. I’ve tried an ipod touch 4th gen and a 3rd gen ipod nano and I get the same for both even if I make a quick errand and leave the ipod in the truck. Also, I notice that it is slow to display album art as well. I updated to the latest software and things still seem to be the same. No big thing but not sure if that is normal.

Oh and I had a “fit and finish” issue that was minor but eyebrow raising. One of the map lights in the overhead console was a different color that all the other interior lights. A friend of mine noticed it and when I showed the service guy, he said it looked like the light was starting to burn out. I thought it was LED and I know they don’t burn out and little stuff like this should have been caught before leaving the factory. Not griping even though it sounds like I am but I’m just hoping for some trouble free miles since I rarely trade my vehicles in. So what do you guys think about my issues with my UConnect headunit? Are they more or less normal and I just need to learn to live with them?

Those all sound like they may be issues with the actual UConnect unit, especially if you have the most recent software update installed. It's strange to me that the dealership couldn't or wouldn't do anything about it...that kinda sucks! If you haven't already, check out the Uconnect update thread (once I can get to my laptop I'll post the link to it here). You might be able to find some info by reading through that thread.

Other than that, I would say you should probably see if the dealership will install a new Uconnect head unit in your truck. I know there are other guys on here who have had to even have as many as 2 new head units put it due to the others being defective. At least it's covered under warranty!

Hope this helps man. Maybe someone else can chime in with better advice. Good luck!

Yeah I just had my 3rd 8.4n installed yesterday and it's still not working properly. I even had a new console installed with new SD and USB drives. It seems like with each new radio, some issues get resolved but not all - and now with this 3rd one that I got yesterday, it killed all of my voice commands. It's like the mechanics forgot to hook up the voice feature or something. Voice won't control the phone, GPS, radio, USB,SD, Nav, etc...it used to work for everything but the USB/SD. At least my dealership is willing to help me here in New Hampshire.
