I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9 engine. I got a check engine light with a P0138 code. I pulled the downstream O2 sensor like the code suggests. It was pretty black. I have noticed that the truck has been burning through the oil which is why im sure the O2 sensor is bad. I am going to replace the O2 sensor, but I am wondering where I should start looking to try and solve the bigger issue?

The intake plenum gasket is probably leaking oil into the intake causing it. Very common on those engine's

if you are burning oil, I would start with a compression check. This will tell you if its getting by your rings.
