For a bit I was smelling burning plastic. No idea where it was coming from. Welp it was my amp ground. Not sure how or why but another u expected expense. At least it's not urgent.

Is there terminals on the power and negative wires? Does not look like it...kinda looks like half the ground wires are not connected to the amps ground which is where the resistance is, hence the heat, hence the melting. Ground wires should also be as short as possible.

Love the way the positive wire strands are left hanging out. Def be going back to the local shop for new wiring and amp. Then self-install.

Pathetic work on both the negative and positive connection. Sad these days the lack of craftsmanship I see more and more.

Id be interested to see what size wire the terminals are rated for. Looks like 4 ga power and ground just shoved on in there.

SMH. How hard would it have been even just to use a set-screw type terminal to clean it up.

This is a good excuse to clean up and redo the speakers too. I have an under seat box and I want to go from 2 12s to a little bit larger 1 12 enclosure for sound quality.

I should have done the install myself the first time. Laziness for the loss

If a local shop did that crap they need to be called out...that is lazy work and potentially very dangerous

When I get any aftermarket installs done these days I unfortunately go in with a pre-determined expectation that they will do an average job on the wiring. There's so much bs that goes into it. The shop gets the bulk of the money and pays the installer by the job or crap and encourages fast install tricks like the 3M wire splicers that can easily nick and weaken wires. Or the shop charges for 3 hours for a 1 hour job. Certainly my experience with the big box stores. I would rather pay a bit more and go to a quality mom and pop install shop that puts pride in work quality ahead of volume.

Forever ago, a friend of mine bought brand new Acura TL-S and took it to a local semi-chain (they had several locations but only in CT) for a stereo install.

They literally cut the fixed leather head rests on his back seat to fit bigger speakers. I would have gone ballistic, I dont think he even cared. SMH.
