Howdy all..

I've got a bug somewhere in the front end of my truck and its getting the better of me these days, I'm hoping someone here had a similar issue and can point me in the right direction. Let me begin by saying its not a squeak, it's not a rattle, it's not a grinding noise and nor is it any clunking. The best way I can describe it would be it sounding something similar to driving down the road with your hood not completely latched or having a fiberglass hood with pins that gives you the body panel rubbing noise.

It started a few months back when I hit a pothole on the drivers side but wasn't that bad. It doesn't make the noise when its wet out but when it's dry it's pretty consistent over imperfections in the road. I feel a slight shimmy in the steering wheel when I hear it as well and it seems to be getting worse, I hear it when I crawl to a light or in my driveway. It's a 2500 with a bit over 100k on it but I never ever drive the truck like a truck it's driven like grandpas caddy on Sunday.

Shock rubbing on something? Steering damper out of whack?

My money is on a ball joint.

I was thinking that but there is little to no play from caster to camber.. The damper crossed my mind as well but the noise seems to be favoring the drivers side. With the 2002 2500 are the ball joints pressed or installed with hardware? I haven't stuck my head in there to look yet.

Not sure on the truck, but my wife's charger was doing that. Small indepent mechanic told me dodges sway bar linkages do that often. He said hers didnt seem bad but felt thats what it was from experience. Well i let him change it and problem was gone

2002 4wd bj are pressed in the inner "C" not in the knuckle, much like the Dana 44 found in the 2nd gens.
