What is everyone’s thoughts on the “cap less fuel fill? Should I buy an aftermarket cap or “trust” the engineers that this cap less design will be ok?

Auto manufacturers pretty much have the capless fuel fill working correctly, don't hear of too many issues with them.
The diesel version of capless fuel fill is different than the gassers, still no issues. I run a locking cap on mine not so much for someone stealing fuel but just in case mischief decided they want to add something that doesn't belong in the fuel tank.

I got 422,000miles on capless systems...158K on this truck plus 229K on a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and my wife's Honda's got 35K. No issues.

thanks. I was concerned about water or dirt getting in. The flapper is recessed a bit and I could imagine water sitting there when you are ready to fuel.

With the diesel filler neck there is two flaps and there is a drain between them. Also the fuel filler door has a gasket, even going through a car wash I've yet to see inside there get wet.

I hate capless fuel fillers but I've learned to accept them lol. I had problems with fueling the 2020 Laramie I used to own but it may have been an issue with the tank itself and not the filler. Got rid of the truck before the dealership was able to get it in to look at it though.

My 2016 came with a plastic slip in cap
maybe it is to keep carwash water from getting in.

Personally, i don't trust children, they enjoy playing with sand & dirt

AMI makes a nice Fuel Door
