With the gauge showing empty, I would think your sending unit has gone bad.
But with two things happening at once, I would look at the fuel system relays and wire connections. Good luck

ok so i found out that my transmission kick back cable went bad and my idle air control valve went bad simotaniously go figure so i was able to figure that out and its obvious to me that my pump is still good because i can still drive.... but i can not find one fuse for my fuel pump or gauge so either im not thoroughly looking or it just doesnt exist but if u know a way to test it or what the sending unit even looks like that would be helpfull because before i commit to droppuing my fuel tank with 20 gallons in it down i want to know what im doing thaank you

On my 96 the pump, sending unit, and filters are all in the tank as one unit.
Hold on I will go get pics.

The first pic is your fluid level sensor. That was bad on mine.

The second is the whole unit itself. Pump is in the bottom section. Filter 1 is on the very bottom, missing in this pic. And filter 2 is in the pressure regulator on top.

You can disconnect the wiring harness and run a jumper wire to and your gauge should go to full.

LET ME DOUBLE CHECK THAT!!!!!!!! I can't seem to find it.
