Todd must be a mind-reader, or just that it's that time of year again. He ran a 5 year (!) long stabilized gasoline test using E10 gas, which I would never use in my small engines, but it's still a valid test if you have a vehicle you store for winter, like a sports car or an RV.
Guess what - STABIL is the only additive tested that BOTH stabilizes gas and prevents corrosion. Period. He didn't test Amsoil, unfortunately, and Amsoil ONLY advertises corrosion protection, not startup capability. I might not use the bottle I bought after witnessing this test. You guys using SeaFoam - just, stop. Star Tron will let your engine start, but doesn't prevent corrosion - at all.
Here's the thing - by definition, gasoline stabilizing additives raise the octane rating by PREVENTING gas from oxidizing in storage, thereby preventing varnish and gum, right? Well, that means it doesn't burn as well, either!! What a surprise, eh? Again, if you store the stabilized fuel too long, the engine won't run well but will be clean - just dump the little engine gas into your truck. Problem solved. And DON'T use ethanol gas in any of your small engines if you can help it!
I always used Stabil and never had issues, except sometimes a chainsaw that was stored more than a year would start hard, then I'd just dump the old gas into my truck, and it would start right up with fresh gas. Stabil is made by PenRay, which always made professional additives.
