I recently got a Superchips programmer.

I drive a 4.7 1500 4x4. Has anyone dicked around with other than 87 octane?

Trying to find the best setup for power/mileage.

I've heard that using the 91 performance setting is a decent setup.

Also is it safe to use higher than 87 octane in the 4.7 Flex Fuel?

I dont see why it would hurt using a higher oct, the higher the oct the less chance of knock.

With the Hemi, I know that I got the best performance and mileage out of the 91 tunes running 91oct. The 87 tunes and mileage XS crap they have just doesnt work nearly as well performance wise or mileage wise (averaged a little over 2mpg better on the 91 over the mileage tunes).

Your call, you can try what you want but for less than the cost of a whopper value meal you can run the performance tune with the higher octane and call it a day (in a full tank of gas, thats about the difference between running 87 and 91).

Yeah, I think it's pretty much your call. I have the 3815 w/ the 5.7 and I run it on 93 octane on the 91 tune... seems to have better gas mileage than the 87 tune and more performance

I have a flex fuel 4.7L and i run 87 on the 91 octane tune. I have ran 91/93 octane for 2 months straight and did not notice any difference in performance or mileage.

^running 87 on the 91 tune is not a good idea. Hook up a knock sensor and see what your part throttle and WOT ST knock are... bet its on up there. Luckly the computer will cut timing like a mother to save your motor but you run the oct tune for the oct fuel you are running.

YES, the new 08+ 4.7 LOVES the 93 performance tune and 93 octane. The factory tunes are really lacking in timing advance and the 93 octane tune gives the 08+ 4.7 A HUGE KICK IN THE PANTS, especially in the low-midrange. That little secondary powerband that comes in around 4,500 rpm will not even exist. It will put you in the seat clear from 2,500+.

Very nice! I'm about empty on 91 octane. Maybe I'll check 93 out next.
