Full Exhaust Brake & Engine Coolant Warming

Somewhere in the Ram Diesel Supplement Users Guide I read that in cold weather, just as soon as one starts the engine, full exhaust brake can be turned on, to more quickly warm the coolant/ engine. Anyone here also do this?

At every start I turn on the engine brake. Why wouldn't you? It will also increase brake pad life.
Applying back pressure at the turbo has been a method of quick warmups going back over 20 years.

If the exhasut brake should be on all the time then why did the manufacturer equip trucks with a feature to turn it on and off?

If the exhaust brake should be on all the time then why did the manufacturer equip trucks with a feature to turn it on and off? Setting on always automatic, not full exhaust brake would be a more practical thing to do. But I was posting about rapid warming of the engine w/ full exhaust brake

Actually when it's cold mine actuates and high idles automatically. Some people cry about the noise so they give you the option.

Running the EB will also help keep the shutter vanes in the VGT turbo from sticking. I start my CTD up and push the EB button as soon as I can, winter or summer or in between. With my deleted exhaust it sounds like a jet engine getting ready for takeoff when it is cold out and I turn up the high idle.

In the north where roads can get quite slick the exhaust brake can cause the tires to loose traction. So having the ability to turn it off is great.

Also, full exhaust brake activates when one even slightly lifts off the accelerator pedal, robbing one of the fuel economy of the vehicle coasting. So, if one wants to use it to save brakes around town, the auto exhaust is better because it engages when one applies the brakes.
