I got a 2014 Ram 2500 with black appearance group. I want to put one or two of the pillar mount police style spot lights on it. I can find some where the light housing is black, but i would like ones that have no chrome on them and they are entirely black. Anybody know of any like that?

We used to have them on our patrol cars. Seems plastic housings are even more popular than the old, larger chrome ones of years gone by.

Give me a minute and I can find you a link. Just can't remember the brand name at the moment.

Even better, are the latest versions, which use a pack of LED's rather than a Halogen bulb. Low power draw, clear, intense light. But, they are very "pencil beam" and do not put out the nice Floodlight glow around the edges of the light pattern as the traditional ones. That's good, or bad, depending on your personal preferences.

Problem was, mounting them on our Expedition and Tahoes, was that they go right where the grab rail is on the C-Pillar. Many cut those handles out, just to have the rod go through the window frame and have enough space for the handle on the interior side. :superhack: Sometimes it looked like a shabby hack job, others came out nice. I guess it depends on the talent of the installer.

Unity (and others) make the basic housings, and Whelen makes the optional LED lamp assemblies.

You can probably find a **** ton more with a Ebay / Google search, but here is a good site to get you headed in the right direction. It even has kits for a huge variety of vehicles.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, i have looked at whelen and unity, they have the black housing of the light part, but the rest is still chrome. My dad has one installed on his new 2014 ram 3500, and it installs nicely without getting in the way of the ole' sheet handle. should be the same install on the 2500. i just would like every part to be black. And yes i am going with the LED ones.

Any chance you could get some pics of his? I've been wanting to try this but there is nothing out there as far as advice or pics for installing them in a Ram.

Yeah, I work with my dad, so as long as i remember i can get you some pics maybe monday or tuesday. He always has the dealer install them on his trucks. From what i understand though, unity actually has vehicle specific mounting instructions and templates you tape onto your actual vehicle and it has exact place to drill marked on the template. You can youtube it, i found some videos of the instal on there.

I have also seen the Halogen and LED versions on larsonelectronics.com
For the LED: $281.00 215,000 candle power, thats about 17,000 Lumens

I want to put one on my 2014 Crew Cab also. I don't have any tools to do so, so I'm going to have to go to the dealership to do it. I asked them already and they said if it had instructions they could probably do it. Does anybody know if there are any obstacles or any kind of damage that could happen when installing it into the A pillar?

Are you guys installing just for ***** and giggles or do you have a practical use for them?

For those of you who have used them on patrol vehicles, do you have the problem with them flipping around when you get up to speed (100+)? If so, do you have a fix?

Never had that problem on any of our cars, we use the kind that go through the A Pillar, and they're somewhat tight. When you fold it up and around on the windshield so that the lens is facing you, they stay there.
