I just purchase a 2018 Ram 1500 and while washing it the other day I noticed what appears to be missing windshield molding across the top of the front windshield. Is this normal or did the factory forget to install it? (the other lines are reflections). You can see there is some debris beginning to collect in the gap. Thanks in advance.IMG_2384.JPG

My 2014 is exactly the same. Seems to be normal. I recently had to have the entire roof repainted because of a paint chip on that leading edge that went unnoticed for a bit and caused the paint to bubble. Luckily I caught it before it got under the seal. My body/paint guy had a lot to say about RAM leaving that area exposed, most of which can't be repeated in public. :)

Mine has a gap there as well. I see a lot of companies doing that. Not sure why though.

Shame they didn't put a rubber seal on the outside covering that edge like what some vehicle manufacturers do. Would have prevented rock chips there.

I plan to wrap my roof before chips or debris become an issue.

Otherwise it’s normal.

Yeah. Some clear paint protection film wouldn't go amiss there I guess.

Actually, I’m going to color wrap the roof and do a hood section as well. Trying to get this done this week, before o order my lowering kit.

Thanks for the responses. Sure looks wrong, but I checked at the dealer and they all seem to be coming this way. Looks like a recipe for disaster. Guess time will tell.

Interesting, my 2018 2500 does not have a molding there.

The 2017 in my sig has no molding up there either. Nor does the 2013 Impala or 2014 Chevy 2500 Duramax parked near it for that matter.

My 2014 is like everyone else's. Odd the 2018's have one. Definitely post up the part # if you find it. MaximumSteel18, can you post a clearer picture with daylight on the area?

OP, it's not a huge issue, almost every Ram I've seen while at a dealership was like this. IMHO just be sure to go through 2-3 x's a year and wash and brush it out with a small paint brush to keep it all clean. A quick coat of liquid sealer on the same paint brush and toweled off after will suffice.

OP, look at your windshield and see if the glass has been replaced. I can clarify this tomorrow but the short version I was just given is this.

Look at your rear glass, it's entirely held in by urethane, no molding at all. If your front has the molding it could be something new, or more likely the windshield has possibly been replaced and the installer put that in.

The front windshield upper is designed such that the way it meets the body and as it meets the edge of where the body intersects the rubber roof gutters it is allowed to be able to drain out. The rubber roof gutters can, if a truck is parked with the rear elevated, drain down through the lower cowl by means of the plastic windshield side moldings.

Let me know if I need to take pictures to clarify this bit of enginee-nerdery (engineering).
