I have a concern that came up between oil changes. Gas smell on dipstick, in catch can oil/gas mix, and strong fumes out the tail pipes. No CEL. No rough idle, no surging. I searched and couldn’t find an exact answer. Leaky injectors? MAP? Fuel reg? Plugs are brand new and the old ones looked to be burning perfect so isn’t Jays tune. Any help appreciated, thanks

Get a uoa from blackstone and see how bad it is. Is the old oil gone or saved in container? So it literally only happened after plug change? What plugs did you use?

Nothing cleans injectors like PEA cleaners, I prefer redline si-1, a full bottle with 89 or 91 octane.

check your fuel trims as well, pretty sure your tuner will be great at that.

Maybe I worded that wrong, it was present before the plug change and I changed them anyways, factory indiums. I run a 93 oct tune and top tier fuel, I’m thinking it has to be the tune now, and I’ve contacted my tuner. Waiting to here back. I’m about to drop the oil and send it to blackstone, but it’s bad enough that the exhaust will burn your eyes out if you stand behind the truck and the smell is strong as crap. But no CEL or codes doing a DTC with HP Tuners

I'd run the fuel trims, ask you tuner about those, good luck and let us know if you fix it. I might even be inclined to take the air filter off while in the drive way and see how the fumes are.

Do you still have cats? Maybe a hung open injector? Smelling a bit of fuel in the oil isn't a big deal but it sounds like there is a ton in your oil.

Let us know what Jay says.

Yep I have the ARH catted lts, it’s not a little smell, it’s very noticeable and the catch can smell/viscosity gave it away. I’m glad I run redline, in my mind at least, it isn’t hurting the oil that bad until I figure this mess out. I know I can stethoscope the injectors to listen for equal rhythm, but a hung injector is diagnosed how?

Jay said exhaust leaks have major effects on this issue, I’m going to retorque the header bolts and break out the spray on a cold start and make dang sure I don’t have any in the whole system, then I can eliminate one more thing and maybe it’s in the tune, unsure at the moment...

I have hp tuners but I’m unsure if it has the capability to turn them off individually, never dug down in it that far in fear of messing something up.. I do know there are a lot of parameters that can be changed, but I don’t know how effective it is at being a diagnostic tool without sending logs to the tuner

Have you checked the upstream O2 sensors? Have you recorded a log and sent to Jay while this has been going on?Sean Powell sent me an email and told me the same thing Jay said to you, exhaust leak. Wasn’t the case though as mine was right buttoned up.
If your engine is throwing more fuel to either side of the engine, Jay could tell as that’s what Sean told me. This could mean that an O2 sensor is hung up. I had the Bank 1 upstream o2 sensor crap out. Engine was throwing 25% more fuel on driver’s side of engine. I changed the oil and about a cup full of gas came out first, oil filler tube stank like gas and the exhaust was full of black soot. This is just my experience though, may not be what’s happening to you.

Oh I had no CEL either.

You can use your fingers to tell if an injector is dead,if you don't have a stethascope handy. Personally i wouldn't be driving it much,if it's dumping enough fuel to be filling the crankcase with gas, doesn't take much driving under those conditions to wipe out the rings from cylinder wash down.Just my 2 cents though

Thanks for the advice, I contacted Jay and will be sending him the logs he needs tomorrow. I’ll update when I here back

Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the o2 sensor plugs? When my help was plugging them in after installing the headers, he may have cross them and I want to verify they are all hooked up to the right stream. Unless it doesn’t matter??
