As of now I'm running a 4in lift with 35's. I'm trying to throw some performance parts on the rig, to make it close or more then stock speed. I am running 3.92 gears, would it make a a great difference if I popped in some 4.55 or what ever the ratio is. I want to get this truck to haul ass again before I put the lift and tires. The hemifevor tune, shorties, and new Y pipe are waiting at the house. Torque converter is going on after. Any input will be appreciated!!

4.56's will definitely help out, but once you get those performance mods installed I'm not sure if you will need the gears, you should be pretty quick after those, if install them first and then decide if you need to spend the extra money or not

4.56's will greatly improve driving with a lift and larger tires.

I've heard nothing but good things when switching to 4.56s.. It makes up for the bigger tires and then some. Can't wait to get mine in

however, I dont know how good of an idea it would be to swap in used gears...

I would do the lift first and see how you like the 3.92's. 4.56's will get those tires moving, but probably take you down 2 mpg's and you wont like it on the freeway, especially cause you don't have the 8 speed.

Botton line your truck will be taching higher, just try driving on the freeway in 4th gear, that is how it will feel.

if my 2013 ram came equipped with 3.55's, would installing a 3.92 gear void the factory lifetime warranty? (I would be using OEM gears from the dealer)

Depends on the dealer but I doubt they would go so indepth that they would see if your truck came equipped with them.

Well brought it to the dealer for them to address some broken exhaust bolts and the find that there is a recall on the rear end. Well low and behold my rear end is trashed!! They are placing everything inside it along with two new heads!

Plenty have people have done gear swaps, just not a lot of people have done it to 2012+ trucks just because it's a pain in the ass with front diff.

Check out the 3rd gen section on here or dodge talk, lots of feedback there.

In my opinion, any tire 35" and taller should do 4.56s to over come the height, weight, and lift.

What kind of mechanical skills does one have to have to make this gear swap. I mean I am inclined, I installed the lift on my truck in my driveway. What special tools will I need? Or if anyone can point me too a write up on this.

It's a lot more involved than a lift. You'll need a magnetic dial indicator to set the backlash, an inch lb torque wrench to set the pinion preload, the dial type, not the click. You'll need a pretty good impact gun to crush the crush sleeve, a press to press on the pinion bearings and differential/carrier bearings and then the time and patience to make sure the tooth pattern is good.

In my opinion, it's just not worth it for an average joe without the proper tools and experience to do it. Even being just a few thousands of an inch of in one direction or the other can cause severe gear whine, premature bearing failure, etc.
